The Role
The work was intellectually stimulating and I was given plenty of opportunity to take on actual client work. This meant that my work was always engaging and the internship flew by. It was also good to be based in Liverpool which is a city that I love. It was also nice to be earning money throughout the summer
I felt like they always made an effort to include me as part of the team, whether it was inviting me along on socials or sitting with me at lunchtime. I felt I got praise for good pieces of work, but was also given points to improve on when my work wasn't necessarily of the highest standard.
There was adequate training in every area, but also if I had queries whilst performing a task there was always somebody who I felt I could for help from without feeling like I was wasting their time. This was good as it allowed me to progress in the job as fast as possible.
Early in the internship a lot of my colleagues were quite busy, and hence I didn't get offered a lot of client work. However, it picked up a lot over time as I became more proficient. Towards the end of the internship there was a large, but not unmanageable workload.
A lot of genuine client work was assigned to me and I regularly sent out emails to fund managers and colleagues.
Not massively relevant for my degree, although enhanced problem solving and communication skills.
The Company
Friendly but professional. I could tell that all of the staff get along with each other in a context outside of work, which was nice. However, when work needed to be done everybody appreciated the fact that it was important for the company. It was nice to have this balance, with people who you felt really cared about the company they were working for
The internship was very well organised. We had two centralised induction days in the Leeds office where we stayed in a hotel and got to meet other students on the internship across the country. There were also plenty of specific targets and checklists which needed to be met on a week by week basis which was good for assessing progress.
The firm invested in me fairly heavily. This was mainly in the form of training, which I can appreciate is very costly for the firm since the colleagues training us had to take hours off their client work. We were also given ample resources to be able to carry out our work i.e. personal laptop

The Culture
There was only one other intern, so it was rather quiet. Although this is to be expected since the Liverpool office is one of the smaller ones in the group and therefore they couldn't take too many interns on at once. The social scene with work colleagues was very good though, we had 3 Friday night socials during the 8 weeks
Liverpool was an ideal location, being fairly close to home and with access to cheap accommodation just outside the city centre. It also has convenient public transport links and the office is in an easily access location in the heart of town. It was in the perfect place for me.
Liverpool is a great city for a night out, I really enjoyed living here.
Yes. I went on 3 socials during my 8 week internship, but I also turned a few down due to other commitments. Examples include a trip to Adventure Dock in the Albert Dock, and I was offered a trip to Alton Towers. The firm also ran a firmwide football and netball tournament which summer students were able to take part in.
