The Role
I enjoyed the responsibility and the tasks I was trusted with. I worked on real projects that added value to the company. I have met some amazing people that I will continue to stay in touch with and network with in the future. I have done a lot of work within my 10 weeks here and have gained a lot of experience also.
I felt like I was part of the team mostly, however it took me a while to feel fully comfortable with everyone. I felt valued by the people I worked with and was able to build relationships and networks from working closely with others. I have enjoyed feeling like part of the team.
I was given Excel support and guidance in my first few weeks of working here which then helped me throughout my placement and has given me transferable skills for the future which I will continue to use in my career. I have been given sufficient training to assist the work I am doing.
there were certainly busy periods however a lot of the time I was stuck with little to do and had to use my initiative to create work for myself, check numbers and data and even ask other teams for work and assistance on their projects. My line manager was almost too busy to give me work.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility however I know others had a lot more than I did, but I think that depends on the roles. I was responsible for an important set of external documents, which was quite pressurising however I enjoyed the challenge and thrived from the workload.
I have gained skills in communication which is hugely important within the workplace. I worked closely with other teams and units, asking for and checking data and information. Business communication and commercial awareness are key skills of which I have obtained, in addition to the Excel skills I have now developed.
The Company
The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and I felt I was able to talk to anyone and ask for help, whether it be an issue with work or something more personal. The workplace was vibrant at times yet quiet at others, so I chatted in conversation when it was more lively, and was able to get on with my work when it was more quiet.
I think it was set up well on the whole, however for my particular role I think it could have been more well structured as I was often left to my own devices which was demotivating for some of the time as I wanted to make an impact and add value.

Company Parties/Events
there are lots. the scheme is vast with lots of opportunities.
The Culture
The location did not hand itself to a good night life however other interns and graduate workers made it enjoyable and social as we organised drinks and socials a few times. I also had team lunches out with my team which was very fun and lovely and brought us closer.
I was kindly put up in accommodation by the company therefore I cannot comment on the cost of living aspect. socialising was fairly expensive, as drinks were charged at London prices and restaurants nearby were fairly smart, for example, a salad at the popular restaurant round the corner costs £22.
nightlife was expensive and drinks were not cheap also as prices mimicked what could be found in London. there are not many clubs or social places nearby, none within walking distance, however the company shuttle bus to the station was convenient for us to get into the town where the amenities were.
There were charity challenges so the interns created a 'Sponge the Intern' stall at the summer B B Q. I also sold strawberries and cream for charity which raised £130 for Carers UK, which is the charity that Centrica are currently supporting this year. These challenges were great to get involved with.
