The Role
The work atmosphere was incredibly welcoming, everyone is so willing to sit down with you and answer any questions. It is very well structured and you really feel part of a team whilst working here. The hours are not too long and you get a really good work life balance.
The system of buddy, mentor and manager means you have a sytem of support from the go. Your buddy is a more informal go to talk about your general well being, Mentor there to give advice on your internship and my manager was incredibly helpful with regards to teaching me about my role.
It varied quite largely from week to week. Early on there is very little to do but once my projects began to get going and also once I began to learn more about the business I was entrusted with more work and therefore I was much busier. As long as you manage your time you are not overloaded.
The skills learned here are quite specialist to the GTS department and are not overly applicable. However in my role I was able to follow things like world commodity prices meaning I now have a much broader understanding of the economy which can only be useful in my further career.
The Company
Very well set up, the first week was intern wide training and you hit the floor on the Second week. I was assigned a specific team and then also had a cross functional project in order to gain more exposure to wider parts of the business. There were also frequent intern events.
The first week consisted of a lot of training, on excel and different training systems, however after this first week there was little formal training. The first week of training was also not directly applicable to the job I did and this would have been something I would have liked to see more of.

The Culture
There were 10 interns within my department and we struck up a great friendship. There was never any competitive rivalry amongst us and we frequently went for drinks after work and almost daily had lunch with the other interns. There was limited interaction with interns from other departments however.
Working in London is obviously very expensive and the cost of going for drinks or food was very expensive. I fortunately was able to stay at a friends flat but the cost of rent is highly expensive and can make the internship not worthwhile and a real struggle depending on your pay.
There are so mnay bars and pubs nearby. We would frequently meet after work on Fridays and especially in the summer time it is extremely lively with lots going on and lots of different places to go. The only problem again being that the nightlife in the area was extremely expensive.
There were some societies but not very well advertised. Such as Rugby and football, however there were opportunities to practice public speaking and take part in charity runs and corporate events which were a great way to meet people outside the working environment. More societies would have improved my internship however.
