    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I interned in GLM within corporate treasury. The people were all very nice but I found the work rather dull and repetitive.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was very friendly and welcoming when I arrived. People generally have lots of time for you and are keen to give you the opportunity to ask lots of questions. There was also a good range of events to let you get to know the employees and other interns.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There is generally plenty of feedback on anything you do, and people don't expect you to pick everything up straight away.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For most of the internship I had a good level of work, however the last few weeks got quite boring as the work dried up.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was doing work for various people and was setting up Skype calls with the US to explain my findings, so there was a fair bit of responsibility. Most of the work I was doing was the most basic stuff, though.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained a fair bit from the internship in terms of confidence and general work experience. However the technical skills learned, other than a bit of Excel, will probably not come in that useful in future.

    2/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Lots of food gets brought in, and there's free hot drinks. And people are always friendly and happy to chat. Often can get a bit boring though when there isn't much work to do.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The training was well organised, and there were plenty of well organised events for all the interns. Integrating us into the team was also done pretty smoothly.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They gave us lots of training. Most of it was specific to our area of work, but there was also plenty from other areas just to give us a view of the bigger picture.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think the organisation would be a good one to work for, however I would not consider a job in corporate treasury.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were lots of events organised for our team, which we attended with the employees from our division, and they were great fun. There were also plenty of events organised for us with the other interns, who came from all around the world and were generally very easy to get on with.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's London so it's expensive. Most of the events for the interns were fully paid for though, and you get a relocation bonus for moving to London.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There's no shortage of things to do in London.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company has various networks, sports teams, and gives volunteering opportunities to its employees.

    3/5
