The Role
Very enjoyable, I got involved in a great range of work and worked with a great team of fellow interns and staff. Social events were also arranged for us which were great bonding experiences and allowed us to create good memories
All staff were appreciative of the work we completed for them and were not hesitant to get us involved in as many different tasks as we could. I did not feel like an outsider, I was included in conversations and even allowed to attend client meeetings. They never made me feel as though I was incapable of doing certain tasks.
The management team, in particular my people manager, was extremely supportive and I felt as though I could ask him for any help I needed. He put a lot of effort into making sure the interns enjoyed their experience. I echo this for the other members of staff who were also very helpful and supportive.
Overall, I was kept busy, as soon as work was available, at an appropriate level, it was passed down to the interns. We were involved in a range of tasks and this meant there was always something for us to do. Staff went out their way to find us work.
I was given responsibility to complete tasks and was trusted with them. The company do many reviews before anything is sent to the client which is necessary, especially as we are inexperienced. But I felt valued and that the tasks I were given were not mundane and unimportant, they were all relevant and some pieces were parts of urgent work, so was trusted to meet the deadline.
The information I had learned in my tax class at university and financial reporting class were useful for my understanding. However, the work was very different to anything I had done at university. I think this practical experience has made me understand that compliance process and allow me to understand how I can use the information being taught whereas before I was not aware of when I would use the information learned in class.
The Company
Everyone in the office was friendly which made for a pleasant atmosphere. Light hearted conversations were had whilst working but professionalism was maintained. Due to the friendly atmosphere in the office I looked forward to coming in each day.
The weeks in the office were well organised with plenty of work offered to us. Our people manager also arranged for us to spend a week in employment tax to get a feel for other areas of tax and it was also arranged for me to attend two client meetings. The company also organised social events and workshops for us to attend which enhanced our experience.
The company invested a lot of time in us by training us to use their systems and on how to perform each task given to us. They also are for us to participate in a two day workshop to improve our presentation skills which was very useful for our final presentations. The team made sure we learned new skills and built upon them over the 6 weeks.

I was offered a graduate job at the end of my internship which was fantastic and I was appreciative that they saw enough in me to believe I could work for them. The team want you to succeed and do the best they can to ensure you are capable of returning as a graduate.
The Culture
Over my time I got to attend social events arranged by the company such as a boat cruise, which allowed me to bond with the other interns and colleagues.
I did not live in Glasgow while on my internship, I commuted so the cost of living there is not applicable to me. However, with regards to the cost of socialising, Glasgow caters for all budgets so there is something on offer for everyone.
Nightlife in Glasgow is great, all different types of clubs and bars to suit everyone and is very lively.
I met up with my fellow interns outside of work on occasion which resulted in us bonding. We did not have to work overtime while there so had free time in the evenings to get involved in other activities.
