The Role
I loved working at Accenture for my Placement Year. I met some amazing people and really enjoyed the culture within the company. There are so many opportunities to network outside your projects and meet new people, its hard to be bored at Accenture!
One of the best things about Accenture is the people. Everyone is always happy to help you progress in your career and connect you with the right people who can provide the best support/guidance. I was frequently told it doesn't matter your level, if you're good at what you do then that's what counts.
I'm not sure if I was particularly lucky with my managers, or if Accenture just excels in management support but at no point throughout my placement did I feel out of my depth or that I could not ask for help. My managers were always willing to answer questions, provide extra guidance when needed and support every aspect of my career.
With consulting, you can never guarantee what a working day entails - it all depends on the activity of the client. This can mean some days are quiet if the client doesn't have any pressing requirements or needs (especially if you are not working on client site) whereas other days can be jam packed, trying to meet all the client requests.
This varies on projects as some client projects can be difficult to get large levels of responsibility due to access restrictions and confidentiality etc. However, on my first project I was lucky enough to be part of a global operations team, meaning I was given huge amount of responsibility which I loved.
The people skills, technology knowledge and an introduction to a corporate lifestyle have proved invaluable. Furthermore, my placement has allowed me to put everything I learnt at university into practise, helping provide great context for my further studies.
The Company
Accenture is a great place to work for social people. Most offices finish work early on Friday's or Thursday's and have free drinks in the office to allow employees to relax. In my first project there was also monthly socials. The atmosphere was never too serious or stressful which I loved.
HR and recruiting were great throughout the whole process. They were always willing to have calls, respond to emails or arrange meetings to talk about your progress or if you had any worries. Projects were always well organised and our induction week was thorough and a great start to the year.
Due to being interns, there wasn't much technology training available as we aren't permanent members of the company. However, there were always opportunities to train in areas such as mental health, LGBT and disability. These were great personal development and something I will definitely carry forward with me.

Very appealing. If I am lucky enough to be asked back to the company I wouldn't hesitate. There are great promotional opportunities within Accenture and with the right support, you have the chance to rise quickly within the company - something I'm very interested in doing.
The Culture
YES!! I was lucky enough to live with 2 other placement students working at Accenture but there was rarely a week when we din't meet up with fellow placement students at Accenture to socialise. A group of us even went skiing together earlier in the year.
London is always a more expensive area to live and socialise. However, its not hard to find bars with happy hours and if you do things in large groups the cost of socialising decreases massively. There are also opportunities to do things very cheaply e.g. picnics in the many parks. Furthermore, your pay normally reflects the higher living costs so its always manageable.
London is great for nightlife. There is such variety from clubs to bars to pubs. As Accenture is based in Bank it is the centre of the city so its well connected to places such as Soho, Oxford Circus, Shoreditch where there is always plenty of nightlife.
There were loads. I personally got involved in a team triathlon, breakfasts and events with the Women In Technology Group. However, the opportunities are endless including many sport groups, wine tasting, book clubs etc. Everyone is welcome to all outside work activities and its a great way to network!
