The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I was working on a large data analytics project which is something I had no prior experience in. I learnt a huge amount from the project, and expanded my knowledge of both the uses of data and different softwares that can be used for data processing.
The dynamic within my team was great. I was the only intern on the project, and I did a lot to help on the project management side. This meant that I got to interact with all the various members of the team and get to know what each of them were working on. As a result, I felt that I was making a personal contribution through my work, and felt that the ideas I put forward were valued.
The onboarding process was really well done - from the beginning of the internship I was assigned a buddy who was constantly there to answer any questions I had and provide me with general support when needed. I was also given consistent feedback throughout the internship which helped me learn how to do better.
It varied quite a bit throughout the project based on what stage of the delivery process we were at. There were days when I would be running around and in the office until midnight. But there were also days which were far more relaxed, where I worked at home and would just be dialling into calls and working independently.
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of responsibility I was given. From the beginning, my manager told me that he wanted to ensure that I left the internship knowing what the personal contributions I had made to the project were. This meant that I had independent task ownership throughout the internship.
I learnt lots of practical skills throughout the internship - specifically using different data visualisation softwares - this is definitely something I plan to develop further and will undoubtedly serve me well in my future career. More so, I learnt how to keep going when I was confused and to figure out how to do things in new ways which is a skill that will be great going into my final year at university.
The Company
The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. The team are all friends which makes the office environment far less intimidating. The working environment itself is great - young and fresh. It was also fun being able to spend two days a week at client site which allowed me to experience the travelling life of a consultant.
The first week of orientation was really well organised. There were lots of team building exercises which gave the interns a chance to get to know eachother. There were also some practical skills workshops in the first week such as excel training and personal branding workshops which were really useful.
They very much encouraged learning throughout the internship. If there was a bit of the project that I was specifically interested in, I was given the chance to learn about it independently and from my team members. More so, we also completed a full day of Excel training which was dry but very useful.

I am very interested in joining the company on their grad scheme. The working lifestyle that it will allow is very appealing, specifically with regards to the flexibility of the work I would be doing. The people are also a factor, as the culture was really enjoyable and somewhere I could see myself working.
The Culture
There was in the first week. However, as the interns were all on different projects we didn't see much of eachother for the remainder of the internship. There was a final drinks for all the interns which was organized by our HR rep which was a nice opportunity to say goodbye to everyone and see how they'd found the work.
I was based in London for most of the project, which is obviously high in terms of cost of living. The office is also based in the city, which meant that socialising after work was quite expensive. However, when I was based in client site 2 days a week all my expenses were covered which was great.
Honestly didn't experience much of the nightlife as I was either working or quite tired from working and just seeing friends. It is based in London though so obviously there is great nightlife if that's what you're looking for - won't be cheap if you stay near the office but there are loads of options.
Unfortunately I did my placement over summer when there are lots of people on annual leave. So there weren't may activities going on. If I do come back, I will definitely get involved in some of the events that they run throughout the year, such as networking or sporting events after work
