The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at LBG. I felt as if I was of actual value to my team and really helped to make a difference on the projects I was working on. Everyone was really helpful and I feel like I've learnt such a huge amount about working for LBG in such a short amount of time.
Before my placement I was concerned that I wouldn't be useful to my team but I was completely wrong and felt very helpful to the team I was working with. This is done by a mixture of good feedback and relatively important tasks that really feel as if you are making a valued difference.
I was given a good level of support by my manager. I feel as if we found a good level of support that I needed without it being overbearing. Even on days when my manager may be offsite everybody else was happy to help me and I felt well supported at all times.
In the first couple of weeks I wasn't very busy but by week 4 onwards I was very busy as my projects had started to pick up speed and I didn't have to keep finding stuff to do as I had enough to be getting on with. However, my projects were manageable in the time frame set.
I felt trusted in my placement and given responsibility to lead the projects I was completing without constant interference. I feel like gaining responsibility was something that came with time as I got more confident and my team also got more confident in me.
I think the skills I developed were incredibly valuable. Mostly confidence and communication skills (both over the phone and email) as I am leaving my internship a much more confident person than I began it. I think also the value of keeping it simple is very valuable especially in my degree to keep questioning and trying to come up with the most efficient ways to complete tasks.
The Company
I had a really nice and friendly team whom which I had loads of fun with and really enjoyed my internship with. Everyone in the wider office was also really friendly and welcoming, especially people who I Shadowed for example.
Everything was well organised. I met my manager before my placement so was comfortable with what I'd be doing/where I'd be going on my first day. It took a little time to settle in (e.g. set up laptop) but everyone was well organised and prepared for my arrival/ sorted out any issues really quickly.
We were set a development journey every week to aid our personal development. I thought this was a little organised at times as a weeks development journey was often sent late and so was sometimes difficult to complete in the time frame it should've been completed in.

Working from home
I had a really positive experience with Lloyds and would be happy to consider future employment opportunities. From talking to the rest of the team, Lloyds appears to be a very good place to work which makes the prospect of future employment very appealing based on other peoples opinions.
The Culture
It was okay. I lived at home and so only met people through the Charity challenge which was very valuable in helping us to meet other scholars. However, there wasn't that much opportunity to be social in Birmingham and I didn't feel like I met many other scholars/ graduates.
I lived at home so cost of living was low and only really included weekly bus travel.
As I am from Birmingham I know the area well previously and nightlife is good in the area.
There are loads of opportunities for those who want them to get involved with extra opportunities E.g. for example yoga classes. The charity challenge was also a great way to get involved with other activities away from work.
