The Role
There were aspects of the job which I particularly enjoyed. For example, the opportunity to work on a range of clients from different sectors and chat with their personnel was great. At times it could be a little repetitive, which would be my only criticism of an otherwise enjoyable experience.
The systems in place, particuarly the evaluation through workday allowed for a sense for fulfilment and value in the role. Additionally, my colleagues were generally supportive, and gave us roles to do which aided with the work at hand meaning that I did feel valued at all stages of the internship
On any one job there was always someone that I could turn to for guidance and direction, which was useful. Additionally, there were a number of meetings with the people manager throughout the internship in order to gauge how we were progressing, and give feedback on jobs that had been completed.
I would say that I was generally busy about 60% of the time. Often I would need to actively seek out additional work to do if I had completed my scheduled amount, but when on site this was easy to do and there was rarely nothing at all to be getting on with.
I was often given responsibility for individual sections of the work at hand, to ensure that they were completed to an adequate standard, though these will have been reviewed afterwards. Occasionally I had the responsibility of communicating alone with clients, which was an experience that I particularly enjoyed the completion of.
In terms of my degree studies, the skills that I learnt were largely non-applicable. However, in terms of skills for life beyond university, I feel that I developed a number of useful ones. More than anything else I would testify to the benefit of just understanding better how business works- how to structure emails politely and efficiently etc.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was generally friendly. I felt very much at ease working in the office. The different departments were not particuarly close, though I should imagine this is to be expected. The office was generally young, and hard working, though clearly a very fun place to be also.
Well organised. The internship was well structured generally with intermittent meetings to ensure that we were progressing well. It could have benefitted from a little bit more variation in terms of which clients we were working with- I think more clients for shorter periods would be a better option here.
The whole process of the internship had a clear focus on my personal development- I felt very lucky to have secured the internship and the atmosphere in the office was very much a supportive one to develop our own personal skills. There were a couple of training days as well.
As such a large firm, future employment prospects are good, and appealing . There are a number of different options and it seems as though the firm supports expanding into different business areas from the original internship also. After the internship, a job offer for post graduation is a common thing to receive.
