The Role
Wide range of interesting work. Almost all of the work I did was for real clients and used by team members which really surprised me.
The atmosphere in the office is collaborative, if you have a question anyone is willing to stop their work and help you. Everyone is friendly and really appreciates the work you do for them.
My manager was very good at giving me support when I asked. However, you are treated as a graduate and if you don't ask for help or ask questions, it is assumed you know what you're doing. This exposes you to what actual work is like, it was a big step at first but you quickly adapt to it. It's much better to be treated as a full time employee than being supervised too much.
The amount of work you do as an intern is flexible. If you want you can work standard 9-5 hours, but most full time employers work longer than this. There is no pressure to stay longer than 9-5, in fact you will be told to go home if you stay much past 5:30. You can take on more or less work if you feel capable.
On occasions I was allowed to lead meetings with external clients and was working on projects all the time (sometimes to tight deadlines) for client reporting and requisitions.
The skills I learnt were mostly unrelated to my degree. However the way of working at WTW means you learn how to manage your time and how to multi-task.
The Company
Quiet and calm, allowing you to concentrate. Open plan office allows you to ask questions and reinforced flat hierarchy. Sound proof rooms on each floor allow you to have meetings or make phone calls without disturbing other people.
Training from HR on first day, line of business training on second day. Apart from this all training was on the job.
