The Role
Interesting and challenging tasks, nice colleages, nice city
Colleages were willing to help whenever possible. Most colleagues have proven to be nice also in private life (during pub visits etc.)
In the beginning the main goals were defined. Whenever I got stuck on the way I could schedule a meeting to discuss details or ask for opinions of my colleagues. The feedback of my colleagues was very constructive and helped me a lot.
I had to work hard to achieve the goals, but I was also allowed to write my Master's thesis during the working hours.
I was responsible for delivering my project to the rest of the group at the end of my placement. There was nobody who made the daily decisions for me or set up my schedule, so the responsibility was almost completely on my side.
Experience will be very useful during PhD
The Company
Though it was a large office it was an inspiring and quiet working atmosphere. People from the office came from all over the world, so everytime I met somebody at the coffee machine there was potential for interesting discussions.
There were inductions by the human resources department in which they informed about everything important.
I just started working, there was no special training.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
There is the potential opportunity to come back during or after my PhD.
The Culture
Yes. There were some very proactive students who organized social events at least once per week. During the summer there were about 30 students at a time.
The region is known to be not the cheapest one in the UK.
I heard it's awesome, though I didn't experience a lot of it.
The city has a long history and a lot of nice places. I never felt boring.
