The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience within my team. There was plenty of support and everyone was open to helping me learn about the industry as well as how to perform my tasks. I gained a valuable set of skills as well as growing the skillset I had prior to the placement.
I felt that I was a core part of the team and the work I was doing had a significant impact on the wider team and business. They were always available to provide knowledge and assistance as well as allowing me to grow on my own. I regularly presented my work to the team to ensure I was on the right track.
My manager and team provided great support and guidance. They were invaluable in learning about the industry and in helping me set and achieve my objectives. The team provided the right balance between allowing me to solve challenges on my own and providing assistance when necessary. There was regular technical sessions in order to make sure we understood things on a low level basis.
I had set objectives at the beginning of the placement and worked towards accomplishing them during my time. We were flexible on the criteria depending on the work done and the time left throughout. For the majority of my time I was not bored, the work was stimulating and engaging and I was busy but not overly so.
I had a significant impact on the work my team was doing and I was not delegated to menial admin tasks. I presented my work regularly to a variety of people as it was relevant and useful. I was given a large amount of responsibility but that was necessary to grow the skills necessary and learn what was required in the work place however I did not feel overloaded.
I gained new technical skills such as learning how to use specialised software. Improve immensely on the skills I had such as delivering presentations and communication. Developed analytical techniques and ways of tackling challenges. These areas of growth will have a significant impact on future studies as well as my career.
The Company
It was a working and professional environment but it was an open and positive atmosphere. Dress code was business casual with casual Fridays. Everyone was actively working but they enjoyed their work and they were eager to discuss their roles and tasks so that I could learn more about the industry and company.
My placement was well organised with very few hiccups. There were minimal issues regarding the on boarding process. Development days and events were organised to a very high standard. My experience though differed to a few other interns whose placement was not as smooth as mine was. Generally it was positive.
My team provided a great amount of training and mentoring; I learned to use new, specialist software as well as develop my current skills to a large extent. There was a lot of time invested in me by team and I felt like a core part of the team and was welcomed warmly. However experiences varied among other interns and for some it was not as positive an experience. It was largely dependent on your team and manager.

The Culture
As the majority of the interns were placed in the same accommodation there was an active social life among us. There was always somebody planning something to do or even just chat together. In addition depending on your team, colleagues were usually up for arranging an event for social development.
