The Role
I have really enjoyed my internship at Savills. Everyone I have worked with has been really friendly and helpful. The internship gave me a great introduction into Commercial Real Estate and I was able to get involved in some interesting projects that I would not have had the opportunity to work on without the internship.
I felt valued by my colleagues - they treated me like I was a member of their team and not just an intern! My colleagues also gave me a variety of projects to work on for them so I felt like they trusted me to produce work to a high standard.
I was given the right amount of support that suited me. If I needed help or had nothing to do, then my management or supervisor would try to help me. They also explained everything clearly to me so I had a good understanding of what I was working on. Additionally, if I knew what I was doing, they would let me get on with it and occasionally check to make sure I was ok and didn't have any questions.
I generally had something to work on all the time. I had the opportunity to attend lots of site visits, as well as assisting with rent reviews and valuations. Whenever work was a bit quieter I had the chance to work on my Summer Project and read articles to further my knowledge of the industry.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship. I was asked to call estate agents and gather information on properties after only being at Savills for a few days. Also, I was trusted to calculate rent reviews, measure sites and input figures for valuations for a large portfolio.
During my internship, I have developed my communication skills, which will assist me in my career as a surveyor because the job revolves around interacting with clients. Furthermore, the knowledge I've learnt about the Commercial Real Estate industry, such as how rent reviews and valuations are conducted, will be beneficial when I join a graduate programme because I will already have an understanding of these processes.
The Company
Everyone was really friendly and helpful. There were also lots of social events such as drinks, sports events and 'lunch and learns', which allowed everyone to bond and gave me a chance to get to know people from other departments better.
The internship was really well organised. I received regular contact from the Graduate Recruitment department so I knew what I needed to do and when. I also had a mid-term review with Graduate Recruitment, which gave me the opportunity to ask any questions I had. Furthermore, the project I had to complete was a great way for me to conduct my own research.
Sports and Social Club
The Graduate Programme appeals to me because I spoke to other graduates about it during my internship and everyone was really positive about it. Savills provide a lot of training and support to their employees and there is also the opportunity to progress up the career ladder within the company.
The Culture
There were loads of opportunities to get involved with outside of work. Savills had weekly sports events such as tennis and cricket. We also went for drinks after work one day. There was also an opportunity to get involved in a sponsored walk which raised money for a charity.
