The Role
The internship structure at Savills is incredible. Interns have the chance to engage not only with their colleagues, but with each other due to the organised events (city tours, departmental overviews, drinks etc). The work load has kept me busy, and so each day is a new challenge in the office. Thoroughly enjoyable and would recommend.
From day one, my colleagues expressed a level of confidence in me by introducing me to a new project which no one else had covered. This to me suggested they respected my ability, and had belief I would be able to complete the tasks to a high standard. Great team to work in.
Every member of my team was willing to take time out of their day to give me a helping hand on anything which I struggled to understand. One of the directors would always spend time making annotated diagrams to explain certain processes to me. Never any questions which felt too silly to ask, it was an open platform to address any issues I had.
From my first day until the end of my placement, there was not one moment where I did not have something to do. The nature of my department is on going projects, therefore the work would carry on even long after my departure. In this sense, days passed very quickly due to the work load.
Included on all team meetings and projects, and tasked with research for a new project that would normally be carried out by a graduate surveyor. Great to be valued in such a sense that the team look at you like an equal, rather than just a summer student on a placement.
Coming from a non-cognate background, learning about the residential property market will be vital when I continue to undertake my MSc Course in Real Estate, as well as after this when I plan to do the APC. Not just related to property knowledge, but also to do with general ddata collection, excel tips and tricks etc.
The Company
Fun, chatty and busy! Everyone has things to be doing but is able to find time to chat and be social at the same time. Never felt afraid to approach anyone for a chat, no matter what position they held. Great social atmosphere to be in, and a nie office also!
Out of the other placement which I have carried out, Savills Summer Scheme has to be the most structured and organised. Each event set up for interns ran on time and to time, and they go above and beyond in planning events for the summer students to take part in.
There is a strong belief at Savills in the next generation - that the impression they make on you and the skills you learn will shape not only your future, but their future if you come to work for them. They will always keep you informed on benefits and opportunities within the grad scheme.
Company Parties/Events
Have been invited for interview towards the end of the placement, for a potential early offer job!
The Culture
Interns always made plans to go out at least once a week after work, and many would have lunch together everyday (dependent on their time schedules)
Central London - high.
Central London - couldn't be a better place for nightlife.
For me personally, I stuck closely to my team and so the opportunities I had outside of this were limited. However, within the team there's plenty of opportunity to interact, play sporting games, go to lunches and dinners etc all depending on your relationship with the team.
