The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Santander SCCB. Everybody was very friendly and my line managers were very willing to set up meetings for me with people in many different areas of the bank, allowing me to build my professional network. It was great to be able to socialise with fellow interns after work too, and we became a tight group of friends
My colleagues often gave me positive feedback and thanked me for helping them out with work. They were also keen to find out lots about me and my background, my interests, what I did at the weekend etc. Not once did I feel like I was not welcome or appreciated by anyone
I had regular one to ones with my line manager in order to track my progress and know what I was doing well or needed to improve on. They were very willing to support me in any area that I needed support on and introduce me to people in different areas to receive a wider understanding of the bank
Initially, I was very busy, with lots of work to do and not once feeling bored. When I made a transition between teams, there were a few days where I didn't have much to do, but it was alright because I could contact my old team and get more work off them. Although work quickly picked up in my new team
Many tasks that I was given involved real life, real time issues at the bank, that needed to be resolved or carried out in order to improve the bank. This was great as it felt like I was making a real impact, along with learning on the job and bringing any outsiders view to proceedings
This was a valuable internship, learning not only practical skills like more advance excel use or structuring a credit paper, but also people skills, as this was the first corporate job I had ever done. I've made contact with people that I will always have, and that is really valuable for the future.
The Company
The office was really exciting and rarely quiet. It was easy to talk to people and have some fun along with working hard. It was good to be so close to the other interns as well, as it was easy to go for lunch or drinks with them, and go and see them for a chat if you had a spare moment.
There was a minor mishap when arriving as nobody knew who's team I was originally going to be in, and I occasionally was left with no work (as in, 2 or 3 days over the whole 10 weeks). Apart from that, it was very well organised and people seem very fond of the interns in the office
Whenever I needed to be trained up in something, I would be, if ever I had any questions, they'd be answered, everyone was very willing to commit their time to me in order to discuss their area of expertise. It really felt like I was part of the team and the bank

I am being considered for the graduate position and I would love to get it. I have really enjoyed my time here and that's all you can ask for! I have met lots of people that I'd like to stay in touch with within the organisation, and it'd be great to see them again next year
The Culture
Yes, we regularly went out for drinks after work, met for lunch and got on really well. We had a Whats App group set up for us by Santander before we even met so that we could get to know each other before we all started, and that was really good
London is expensive and that's not the fault of the bank!
London has plenty of bars and clubs to choose from, many of which were located really close to the office, so it was easy to visit them after work to socialise. We're planning a big night out as interns on our last week so I am really looking forward to that
Nothing much was set up for us extra curricular, apart from the charity project that we had to run on the side, where we could decide which fundraising events to put on ourselves. We also got 1 hour a week within office hours to fundraise and run events, e.g. I ran a charity 7aside football tournament
