The Role
It was a great internship that surpassed my expectations.
As soon as I started my colleagues regarded me as part of the team and I felt valued straight away. All colleagues always took me into consideration and gave me tasks that provided value to not just the team but the company in general.
My manager and the team gave me guidance from the beginning and if I needed them they would take the time to answer my questions.
I believe I was quite busy, taking into account it was an undergraduate internship. I always had something to do every day and that was great. However, there were weeks were I was too busy which caused me a level of stress.
I was surprised with the level of responsibility I was provided with. This kept me motivated throughout the internship and made me feel like I added value to the team.
I don't think this internship will have an impact on my studies at university. However, I have acquired a very large list of skills that will be essential for my future jobs. This internship has pace my behaviour on how to perform greatly on my future jobs.
The Company
My team was rather quiet. While at the office I just did my work and all my conversations were work related. This was different for other teams, when I spent time with a couple other teams I could sense the familiarity between them and the atmosphere was very lively. Nevertheless, my team and I went for several lunches which was a lot of fun.
I was always busy and had work to do, but it did come randomly sometimes. My tasks would vary and I didn't have a specific routine. Although I saw this as an advantage, sometimes it felt like my team would have to think of tasks to give me quite last minute and without organisation.
I think this internship has shaped my behaviour and my approach to work dramatically. it has improved my personal skills such as punctuality, responsibility, composure etc. However I got the impression that my manager was only focused on the work I did and didn't ask about my personal wellbeing.
On my time in the company I learnt a lot about all the different roles and how they add value to the company. I was very interested in some of them and would love to have an employment within those.
The Culture
Interns were very friendly and got to interact with them on almost a daily basis.
Food options in the office canteen was very limited and myself being a vegetarian even less. therefore, I would have to eat out on the majority of days and it was quite expensive.
There were a couple bars next to the office but would be full of older people.
Santander bicycles were the only activity that could be done outside work.
