    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • During this placement I was given a wide range of exposure to the investment bank and the work that they do. Their rotational programme is great for anybody who knows they have an interest in banking and finance but isn't truly sure which area suits them best. I cannot recommend the exposure and experience of this internship enough.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Santander creates a very welcoming environment within which colleagues are always willing to help others learn and to share their knowledge, experience and skills.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Santander provides constant support both on a professional and personal level helping employees to develop their skills for career progression as well as to benefit the organisation. I feel they could have provided slightly more frequent feedback, however this is something they are aware of and working on. Even during my 10 weeks there I saw them working hard to improve their feedback processes.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During my 10 week programme I was given wide variety of small tasks which allowed me to gain an insight into the work that they do. In addition to this they also organised frequent meetings with people from various areas in the bank for me to widen my insight.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • This programme allows interns to take responsibility for their own work whilst still having the full support and guidance of permanent members of the team. This allows for vast amounts of learning whilst feeling confident that should you need it the support is there.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that the skills I have learnt at Santander will assist me greatly into my final year of my degree and beyond graduation. The skills they provide you with are not just focused on technical knowledge but also on softer relationship skills and presentation skills. In addition to this through the shadowing of Santander employees I have gained an insight into the skills I need to improve during my last year of University to allow me to be a strong graduate candidate.

  • Yes, social events were put on for graduates and interns throughout the internship programme. We also had social events within the teams in which we were rotating.
