The Role
I really enjoyed my placement because I had the chance to meet, and interact with other interns. However, I did notice that once it came to being allocated into teams you did not get to work extensively with anyone but your mentor. I was lucky that my mentor was extremely helpful and tried her best to find things for me to do/ work on.
This is hard because everyone is extremely busy and you don't want to tread on anybodies toes. I didn't really get given any work from anyone except my mentor, and as a result I did not feel like my colleagues got to know me or the way I worked. I would have appreciated feeling a little more envolved in the team.
I was given guidance primarily by two people in my team both relatively new to Savills. However, they both were very knowledgeable, and knew the answers to every single one of my questions. They made every task seem that little bit more straightforward which was great, I couldn't have done it without them.
The first few weeks were busy and the days flew by because I constantly had things to do, I loved the feeling of being busy. However, in my last week I didn't have much to do at all and had to go ask around but no one really had anything for me, other than one of the interns.
I was lucky to have been given a fair amount of responsibility. In my third week I was allowed to go on an inspection by myself, and report back to one of the directors in another team which was great fun because I was keen to find out as much as possible about this particular building.
I definitely believe that these skills will be valuable in the future. For example, I didn't know much about excel before my work placement, I still have a lot more to learn but it is something that many companies use on a daily basis. I also think that this internship has given me a bit of an insight as to what it is like to work in an office environment.
The Company
The office atmosphere was generally very friendly and welcoming, most people on the floor knew each other and as a result the atmosphere was a lot nicer. The grads in my team were also very welcoming so I felt like I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to get to know them.
It was extremely well organised, and everything seemed to run extremely smoothly for them. If I could change one thing, it would have to be the appraisal two weeks in. I think that is is very hard for them to grasp and say what it is like to work with you after only 10 days or so.
The company invested time and money in us. We were able to go on a tour of the city, and they organised a social with current grads so we got the chance to talk to them which was great. I also appreciate the chance I got to work in a world renowned company, and can only hope that one day I can help someone like my mentor helped me.

Extremely appealing, the fact that most people I got the opportunity to speak to were very happy at Savills speaks for itself, and I can only hope that one day in the future I will be as happy in a company as the people I spoke to over the last month.
The Culture
Yes we were very lucky in the sense that we ate lunch together on most days, and we would go out for drinks once or twice a week which was nice. However, with some interns being placed in the city office, and a majority being placed in Margaret Street it does create a little bit of a divide.
The main expense for me was travelling into work every day. Obviously, there were other costs on top such as lunch and going out for drinks and in London that is never cheap. However, it is a great place to work and would definitely want to work in London in the future.
The nightlife in the area we worked in was really great because London has so many different bars and places for everybody's taste. The only downside is that if you are not careful it is very easy to just spend all your money, especially if you are like me, and not keen on beer.
We were told about many activities that happened throughout the year and the possibility of joining various sports teams. We were only there for one month and as a result didn't really get to experience ant of these first hand. Everyone seems to enjoy these activities though because people would talk about them frequently.
