The Role
I enjoyed the 10-week internship as a Business Analyst Intern very much! I love the working environment and the atmosphere at work, I learnt so much every day and I was really given the opportunity to get exposure into so many aspects of the business and everyone here at Capital One is so ready to help :)
People here at Capital One are very friendly and helpful! After my final presentation, many of the invited attendees sent me emails to say thanks and congrats, that was really nice as I truly felt honored and valued. I had many directors and even one of the the really higher-ups attended my presentation as well! During my internship, I get to interact people across many departments to gather relevant info, and everyone that I wrote email to replies very fast despite their busy schedule. They are all very humble and willing to share their knowledge.
I had twice a week catch-up with my manager for me to update her with my progress and also for me to get some timely feedback. I also had a mentor who helped me on a daily basis on my work and she was very very helpful throughout my project. I was also assigned a buddy who is someone outside my team to check on my general welfare and feelings.
I worked from 9am to 5pm basically every day. I was not supposed to stay late to do my work and the working hour is really flexible as well - you could work from 10-6 or any other time as long as you can make sure you do not miss any meetings
I was given much responsibility during the placement as I was given a graduate-level project to work on on my own but I also received much support from my manager and my mentor. So I am really in charge of the project and many even came and ask me for my opinion after the project.
I study Mathematics in university, so I really would like to gain more practical skills through internships. This internship helped so much in that aspect because I was able to learn data analytics, communication and presentation skills which I would be able to get exposure into just through my degree study. So I believe all the skills I learned in this placement would greatly help my future career.
The Company
The working environment is vibrant and co-operative. We sit close to each other while our desks ensure generous personal areas for working. It is common for us o grab a cup of tea with colleague and have a small chat. Everyone is relaxed and comfortable in the office and it is never too quiet or too noisy.
The structure was really good. We spent the first week doing some trainings for us to get familiar to the company, and starting from the second week, we work on our projects while some fun social events and helpful trainings are also arranged for us. We got the chance to meet representatives of almost all teams and thus got a much better understanding of the business.
I think Capital One does value intens and grads very much as many of the higher-ups started as grads in the business. We were given trainings which aim at all-round development such as analytical skill training, presentation training and personal development workshops. We were given the support of managers, mentors and buddies as well.

They are really appealing because the working environment is great and people are nice. The starting salary is competitive for grads and working here is flexible.
The Culture
yes, there are events organised for us to know one another and have some fun together such as Intern fun day, social events with Grads and we went out together for dinner sometimes.
The cost of living in Nottingham is cheap as compared to London where I study and live in my term time. I enjoyed the convenience in the area and there are lots of great places to go for fun or dinner.
Haven't been to one myself but there are quite a lot recommended places where people in Capital One enjoy very much.
yes, there are volunteering opportunities wich we could get involved and spend a day volunteering while still receiving salary. There are also many events organized for the interns and for all employees such as team fun day, pay day drinks, team drinks, team dinners.
