The Role
Yeah, you can learn how the project works and how the big company organised agile dev. What's more, there are a lot of charity session for intern, you can pick a piece of jobs to peruse, and learn quite a lot.
In my team, colleagues are nice, and willing to help me handle different obstacles on tech aspect or process of some requirements. After all, they reach the value of Barclays: respect, integrity, service, excellence and stewardship.
Mentioned before, any problems you can share with line manager, your buddy (you will have one when you get the intern) or your mentor (any problems or requirement in company you can get contact with her)
Aha, to be honest, you should find something do by yourself. Like me, due to I am in payment monitoring group, we get touch with sensitive information, so I have no permission to access that data base (if I click some delete button, then booooom!) But I still have to join the development and discuss on the job, So I find some other stuffs like setup for a new big project, and help with network established for Africa project (raspberry pi with 3/4G in Africa to connected with that in UK) to keep me busy.
Not quite sure what the question means, you need to act as a member in Barclays so you need to finish online training to obey rules and act formal, a lot of detail you need to follow.
Learning quite a lot during the net-dev, like ssh, fire wall rules, reverse ssh, hole punching etc. I think they will help.
The Company
Nice, you even have free fruits. Flesh air, nice view.
The session is nice and project is step-by-step, one disappointing stuff is at the beginning of the project, you spend a lot of time to waiting your computer and requirements for some software or permission.
You can learn a lot about the teams and projects, and you can meet with different director and gain their experience. Learn a lot. But it depends on yourself.
