    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • the insight day was well structured and as a result it felt like a meaningful and productive use of my time. However, I would have liked it to have been a full day rather than just an afternoon. This would have allowed for more insight and a chance to really get to know those running the event and attending.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The graduate recruitment team made sure to immediately welcome us to the event and removed any initial awkwardness with their light humour and friendly conversation. The company as a whole appeared to strive to make visitors and prospective students feel welcome. Those I met went out of there way to make a new environment relaxing.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The insight was a whistle stop trip through different aspects of the application process, the day to day elements of the firm as well as a brief workshop on how to present effectively. However the event did not go into enough detail on each of the seats and what each solicitors role was within the firm.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the networking event will be the most useful take away from the insight day. We were given some initial guidence in how to network effectively and then encouraged to put it into practice with a number of associates and partners. Once more the help in producing a cover letter and a successful CV will make it easier to apply to firms at a later date.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was well structured in so much that everything planned happened exactly to time. However it would be fair to say that the event started too late in the day meaning some useful time was wasted. Once more it was not specifically targeted to an age group meaning there were people at very different stage of application in attendance.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was initially very dry (aside from the friendliness of the recruitment staff) however towards the end of the afternoon this picked up when people became more confident and happy to converse. If it were an event spread over a week I am certain the atmosphere would have been great.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company put on a training event in presentation skills as well as one on CV writing and cover letters. This was very useful in personal development. The company also gave up the time of some of its employees to come and talk to us which showed good Will and an interest in us.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight felt less focused upon what it is like to have a full time role and more based upon how to get myself to the company. Having said that the attendance of a partner allowed for a chance to talk about what it was that he got up to in an average day.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight was highly valuable in this regard. I was able to understand the commitment of the firm to diversity, Work life balance, friendships and a general ethos of care with systems in place to make a transition to the firm as easy as possible. Once more the “global” element of the firm was truly hammered home with an insight into its multiculturalism.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I was already incredibly certain that I wanted to pursue a career in law however the insight day did act to cement the notion in my mind

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I did not apply for any reimbursement and truly I wouldn’t want it. I feel that as a day they are putting it on for free so we ought to show our interest by giving something up for it.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The insight day put on a mini networking event that, given the time we had, was very effective in allowing us to converse with a selection of the employees, trainees and partners. I would have liked the chance to talk to both more people and for longer but it was the best I could have hoped for given the scenario.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The chance to communicate with the employees were great. But I always feel networking over lunch is a little awkward! You never know when to eat.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We were given an insight into the social lives of the trainees. For example the chances to take part in the football team or other fitness based events as well as the free private health care and other perks of the business.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I think that any possible experiences at a law firm should be ceased to help one look interested and committed to law. Once more it helped to guide me in how to make my applications stand out and will hopefully aid me in my future attempts to get a job.
