The Role
i really enjoyed the experience. it was good work and with a great team. i felt like the work led to tangible outcomes which were well recognised within the group. a great impression of the national grid overall. there were few drawbacks, and primarily just highlights of working with the group.
i felt extremely valued by my colleagues and approached as a regular working member of the team. this was particularly important in ensuring that i felt the work i was producing was of the business standard required for the company. i felt very valued and it was greatly appreciated.
my managers, supervisors, colleagues and all members of the group were extremely helpful in suggesting learning experiences and advice for me as I progressed through the placement. when help was requested, it was provided in abundance; this applies to both the technical questions, and further questions with regards to a career path, best practice and general advice.
i was moderately busy. the workload was flexible, with a self-set schedule to press me forwards. the deadlines were fairly malleable - i think this lead to a greater dependency for me, to ensure i was pressing on with work. of course, this was checked in on - but I would say the work was not too demanding. A great, mixed schedule.
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility given the context of the placement. my results were incorporated into large simulations of financial modelling after being checked through for verification. I could set my own work and deadlines within reason, furthermore, I was enabled to organise my own trip down to the company, which was an excellent experience.
The skills I learned broadened my skill set, rather than narrowing them down to a specialism. This is quite useful as general skill to bring into the future workplace. My placement was not directly related to my degree; nonetheless, it was useful in applying some knowledge from my degree in a new environment.
The Company
I was working from home.
Well organised.
