The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with GVC Holdings, the company is very welcoming and has a pleasant working environment. The time flew by really quickly and many lessons are learned along the way.
I had a team buddy, line manager and mentor that looked after me throughout my time at the company and my team was very welcoming.
I was given excellent supervision, my line manager held weekly meetings with me and the HR team that organised the internship responded to my messages and issues immediately.
Due to the nature of the business some days are inevitably more busy (world cup period & premier league launch) than others. However, you find as the internship progresses that your time management skills improve and you end up being able to balance all your tasks better. I never felt overworked though.
I was given a good deal of tasks & responsibilities through my internship. With my department team I was frequently given meaningful tasks and asked to present them to a team member (s). As part of the internship we also had a team project that we spent 20% of our time doing - we then gave a presentation to senior leaders in the company for our ideas. It was clear we were valued and our responsibilities mattered.
I believe I am much more employable as a result of this internship. I have gained a lot of vital transferable skills that I can discuss in future interviews and I feel more confident going into the workforce after my studies. The daily work I have been doing has been different to my degree work - but this variety has been important.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was relaxed and friendly. There was free fruit and coffee and also plenty of socials to make you feel welcome.
No negative feedback on my part. The internship was excellently organised starting with the intern and working backwards.
We did two presentation skills day which were very useful. Further training was available on an e-learning platform.
Very appealing ! Would definitely be interested in returning.
The Culture
Other interns were friendly and the majority were easy to work with.
Where travel was necessary during the internship, all expenses were covered and I was never left out of pocket. The cost of living and socializing in Gibraltar is not higher than London.
This is not an important category in my opinion.
The Gibraltar office held many social activities to aid with ensuring a great work-life balance. Football on Tuesdays, summer party and trips to nearby cities were amongst the opportunities offered by the facilities manager.
