The Role
The placement was very educational and gave a lot of exposure to the industry. Although the intern activities were really helpful especially the presentation skills, the technology department wasn't very well organised as they weren't sure what tasks they could give us. Another useful aspect of the internship was meeting the senior leaders as they organised meeting with the CEO of the company and other people every week.
The staff was really friendly and was always kind to help with any problems. I never felt like I was JUST an intern. However, as it was the summer most of the people of contact for me had gone on annual week for a long period of time making it hard to get around and complete tasks
As mentioned before since it was summer my buddy and other people of contact we on annual leave for most of my internship and my manager didnt come in the office for most of the days. However they did try to make sure I had something to do most of the times it could just get messy sometimes
The first 3 weeks were a bit slow and I didn't have much to and the team was a bit confused on the tasks to assign me and I had to get familiar with the industry. However to the end I had quite a few tasks to complete and was kept busy.
I was given a lot of responsibility for the intern project as it was an independent project with interns and we had to contact different sectors. However in the team it was hard to get access to do some of the tasks and would often end up waiting for weeks.
I believe I have learnt a lot of things from this internship. I learned how to use the AWS system, how to write lambda functions in python anjd create websites using react js. I also learned how to create an entire project and manage meeting and contact people from different setors
The Company
The office environment was very lovely and friendly. People were always energetic and always having a laugh. There was even a games room. Getting from one office to the other was very easy as they had a shuttle bus every 5 minutes. Overall people were really friends and easy to approach.
The intern activities were really well organised we had lunch and learns every week and got to learn about different sectors of the industry and meet all the interns during social activities. However the technology department was not very well organised as they werent sure on what tasks to give us
We had various people come in and talk to us about developing our public speaking skills and this helped a lot as we were told what our weaknesses and strengths were. I believe they put a lot of effort in organizing this. We also were taken to do community service activities.
