The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I was working in the HR department in Gibraltar. The work I was given was interesting and I learned so much from the team. I was kept busy and wasn't made to make a single cup of tea or coffee! I also feel that the people within the business really enjoyed having us.
I felt incredibly valued by my colleagues. I was given real jobs to do such as running assessment centres. This way I felt that I genuinely contributed to the recruitment team and I feel that they really appreciated that I was able to go and do these for them. The feedback I got from my manager also included comments from the rest of the team saying how much they appreciated the work I did.
I was given support and guidance by my managers to a very great extent. From the most basic tasks, such as uploading job adverts to LinkedIn to more complex thing, such as grading job descriptions - they helped me and guided me the whole time until I felt comfortable to undertake the tasks by myself.
I had very busy days and quieter days and the balance was perfect. I loved the very busy days as I really enjoy working in a fast paced and busy environment but I definitely needed and appreciated the quieter days as they allowed me to shadow colleagues as well as catch up on emails and work on my intern project.
I was given a considerable amount of responsibility during my internship. Within my first two weeks I was running assessment centres by myself. I also redesigned the relocation pack we give to people when they move to Gibraltar and was allowed to do this how I wanted to and make suggestions which were taken on board.
The skills I developed won't really help me with my degree studies - I study history and my internship was in HR. However, the skills will massively help with the career I want to pursue after my degree which is a career in HR. I learned so much about the general workings of HR and the different structures.
The Company
The atmosphere was lovely. It was both relaxed and casual as well as fast paced and professional. They sound contradictory but this is the best way to describe the office - particularly in Gibraltar. The HR office was fun and chatty and all of the other teams were really friendly too.
The internship was very well organised. To coordinate 16 interns with some of them moving out to Gibraltar is an incredible task and I never felt lost in the process. Living arrangements, transport and the intern activities were well thought out, well communicated and most importantly they were really fun!
Being here for only 8 weeks means that actual qualifications would be hard to do but the skills I learned and the time invested in training me, showing me new systems and processes was incredible. It must be hard for any office taking on someone for a short period of time but they put the time into making sure I knew what was going on.

Very. There are so many young leaders and managers which really makes me want to come and work here. I want to climb the ladder fast and I think that GVC really promote people pushing themselves. Many people in the organisation have been here for years and I think that reflects really well on the prospects available to them.
The Culture
AMAZING! We went go-karting, were taken for drinks and were invited to the business summer parties. All the other interns are so friendly and I know I have made life long friendships. We have a whatsapp chat, have added each other on social media and will definitely keep hanging out after the internship.
Very cheap. I was based in Gibraltar so my food, travel and accommodation were paid for by the company. This was amazing - I ate like a king all day every day. Our hotel was amazing and drinks were incredibly cheap in Gibraltar so drinks after work were never expensive.
In Gibraltar there is only one nightclub and I never went, but I didn't feel the need to. Most of the nightlife was based around bars and restaurants. It was very busy and colleagues would go out after work almost every Friday. You could also cross the border into Spain and go to Marbella or Puerto Banus if you wanted a wilder night.
Tons. There were football teams as well as many other sporting activities. An email also went out every Friday with all sorts of activities you could go along to such as trips into Spain, dolphin boat rides, drinks, dinners.
