About You
I very much enjoyed this insight scheme at Baker McKenzie! The scheme was well organised with a variety of different presentations, activities and workshops, ensuring the scheme was varied and interactive. Following a warm welcome by the recruitment team on our first day, we were placed in different teams. The work which I was able to do was interesting and I very much enjoyed my time spent with the firm.
I felt very valued throughout my time spent at Baker McKenzie. The work which I was doing was interesting and contributing to the team, making me feel like a valued member of the team. It was also great that partners, associates and trainees took time to speak with us and get to know us as individuals.
I felt well supported throughout my time at Baker McKenzie. When I was given tasks to do, I always felt able to ask questions and my colleagues encouraged me to seek their help should I need it. Furthermore, I found the recruitment team to be very supportive throughout my time at the firm.
The skills and knowledge will certainly help me in the future. I have learnt a great deal about the different departments I worked in but also the legal profession as a whole. This knowledge will undoubtedly benefit me in any future interviews or assessment centres I may attend. Furthermore, I will be able to apply the knowledge I learnt to my legal studies.
The Company
This insight scheme at Baker McKenzie was very well structured and I felt that I was able to get a lot out of this insight programme. There was a good variety of workshops, activities, desk work and networking events, meaning that I had a very well-rounded experience at Baker McKenzie.
The atmosphere at Baker McKenzie is generally quite exciting and I could tell that employees are very passionate about what they do and that certainly comes across. There was no competitive atmosphere between other people on the scheme, and everyone was really friendly, both in graduate recruitment, people working at the firm and the other vacation schemers.
Baker Mackenzie certainly invested a great deal into us. We had the opportunity to attend a full day of training in using the IT system / Library resources so that in each department we were able to maximise our time. We were also given 2 hours of coaching on how to present in preparation for our group assessment in the second week.
I now have a much better understanding of what it would be like to have a full time role at the firm. I learned a lot more about the work life balance and typical working hours at the firm, with all employees being very honest about their expereinces. Furthermore, the work that we were completing was similar to the trainees, providing a good picture of what it would be like to work at Baker McKenzie as a trainee.
There is no better way to get a feeling for the culture of a place, especially at Baker McKenzie, than to meet with staff, work alongside them and just talk to them. More than that, the firm does its best to present to you what they are doing in terms of diversity, inclusion, pro bono, etc. and I feel that I got a genuine insight.
The content of this scheme was very valuable and it helped me appreciate what a career as a solicitor might look like and all the different variations within that umbrella. It also helped compare to other firms and careers. This insight scheme at Baker McKenzie has certainly solidified my intention to pursue a career in law.
Everything Else
I was paid very generously for my time spent working at Baker McKenzie.
There were plenty of networking and social opportunities, which included lunches, after-work drinks, networking events, and Q & A sessions with different departments.
I very much enjoyed the networking and social opportunities at Baker McKenzie.
Yes, there are plenty of opportunities for employees to get involved in activities outside of work.
Yes, I would absolutely recommend this insight to a friend!
