The Role
The internship was fantastic. I was given several interesting and very relevant projects to work on. My team and everyone I met was incredibly supportive and helpful. I also had the chance to participate in charity events such as 5 a side football and I got to visit different Barclays buildings such as RISE and Radbroke the tech centre.
My team were incredibly supportive of me. They all had time to chat and help with my work. As well as give me great advice and knowledge when I needed it. Socially my team was really good, meeting up after work occasionally for a drink and a chat. We went out for a few team meals and I really felt like a valued member of the team.
My manager helped me to set good performance targets and also gave me great advice on how I could improve and get the most from the internship. The projects I completed were very relevant to our current business and so I really relished working on things of value and creating something to show at the end.
I could have probably been busier some days but I filled any free time well by meeting graduates for a chat or by completing some of the online training provided. My projects were both fairly challenging at times but on the whole I had a great work life balance. Also if I was ever stuck without work I could always reach out to a colleague for more. Or if I had too much on at once, I could cut some work out.
Fantastic responsibility because I actually got to present to the CEO of a business we are looking to work with. I created the presentation and built the idea to present which was fantastic and a really rewarding opportunity. I also felt like I was given responsibility to contribute in my team and provide my own thoughts very well.
I have learnt many new skills. For example I am now better at presenting in front of large audiences, I have build my professional networking skills and I have also learnt how to code a bit amongst many other things. Overall, I would say being exposed to the business and how it operates is a huge learning curve and so rewarding. I’ve never learnt so much in 9 weeks.
The Company
Really positive atmosphere. People enjoy working at Barclays and I found the work life balance to be great with plenty of social and charity events. Digital banking sports day is just one example of an awesome team building day. Things like this really bring teams together and create a positive atmosphere in the office.
Very well organised. Clear objectives. Great advice and help given to all interns. I couldn’t really recommend it any more to anyone. It is a great place to work. Also the opportunity to meet people and work shadow, learn about what they do. Cannot be faulted. It was really great.
Good training was provided for all interns. I think for full-time employees training courses are funded in the most part by the company which I think is great. Barclays certainly seem keen on everyone developing their skills, learning about all areas of the bank and achieving their ambitions.

Much to my delight, upon completing the summer internship I have been offered a role on the graduate program in a years time so of course I would say the opportunities to progress are great. I think in the future, Barclays will be a great place to work, with new opportunities constantly arising.
The Culture
Fairly good. We went out a few times for a drink or sometimes a meal. We probably could have planned to do more things but everyone was quite busy.
London is a very expensive place to live however it is also very good fun. I would say picking the right places and going out in moderation is key with this one.
Fairly good. Went out a couple of times and enjoyed myself. Very expensive drinks though!
Plenty of activities and opportunities to get involved in things outside of work. I played in a charity football match, I also played for Barclays football team. Other activities included a pub quiz night and a few nights out with other interns. I think there plenty of things to do at Barclays.
