    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Had a great month at CBRE - mainly down to the people. Very supportive and friendly and encouraged you to be proactive and independent. Was given varied work, but would have liked to been given a bit more responsibility.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team (Residential Valuation) were very welcoming, and I felt included in after work activities and social events. By the end of the month, I was being given lots to do by everyone without having to ask, which was great.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Had a beginning and end of internship meeting with my manager and mentor, as well as a 1:1 with a member of HR in between.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Yes, I was given a project to work on throughout the month. As well as this, I attended plenty of Site visits and inspections (6), which were great to get out of the office and see something different. By the end of the month I was getting busier as was getting given more small jobs by lots of people.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given plenty of work to do, but nothing of high importance or client facing.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed would be key if I go on to study a masters in real estate. Coming into the internship, I didn't know much about property, so the technical knowledge I learnt is invaluable in terms of getting to know the industry and skills I'd need. I received lots of training on presenting, In two sessions and also had to present twice (once alone, once in a group). Presenting is always a useful life skill which will hopefully help me when i have to present at University, assessment days and work.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A very friendly and non-hierarchical office. There is a very open plan layout, that means if you need to go find someone from another team it was easy. There is a hot-desking policy within teams, which means you get to chat to different people every day. You are encourage to go get coffee's with people from other departments, and everyone i asked for a chat/coffee was more than willing and very helpful.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was lots of events organised - we had presentations from three different departments within the business to learn what they do. Our first day was an induction day which was very well run. The second day was a group site visit, which was well organised, and our final presentation drinks were good too. These set events were great. However, I think that the teams themselves could have been more organised and prepared better for their incoming intern, in terms of getting work for them to do/their IT details ect.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given plenty of presentation skills training, which was well delivered and very helpful. On the first day we were given a booklet to fill in with our personal development/what we were learning, but this was never reviewed. I think that this could have been used more effectively in terms of personal development.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There was plenty of exposure to current graduates on the graduate scheme. The scheme seems excellence, in terms of both work development, organisation and the social aspect. Further to this, the company was an exciting and very open place to work with lots of opportunities for the best people to work their way up.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was no social events planned amongst fellow interns. However, there were a few informal after work pub trips and an Intern group chat. It was great getting to know interns in my office at lunch ect, but because the intern cohort was spread across three offices it made it more difficult to the whole group to socialise.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • West London, so very expensive.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good, but again expensive!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there was a softball competition after work, wine tasting and pub trips. However, I'd like to see more varied actives after work that didn't all involve drinking!

    3/5
