The Role
I actually really enjoyed the whole experience of being an intern. Short term it was challenging at times when I felt like I didn't have a substantial enough workload, but when I was busy and meeting new people I had a great time. Long term working over summer has really focussed and shaped the career path I want to go down.
I got on really well with my team which was good when completing projects. I did feel valued, but when it came to the work that went on in my team, it was very one-person focussed. This meant that some of the time I felt that I wasn't needed. For the future, I think it would be good for interns to be put in teams where projects that require more than one person are more common.
At the beginning of my internship, my manager introduced me well to the office and what to expect whilst working over summer. But, they went away for a while without leaving me any set work to do so I felt at a bit of a loose end. However, I then spent 2 weeks in another team until my manager returned and I felt very supported and completed some good work. My manager has helped me a lot with my personal development so has offered me professional guidance.
I had to keep myself busy by asking for work and emailing other banking colleagues to meet and shadow. This was fine and enabled me to plan my days. When we had intern presentations and challenges that also kept me busy and this was good. However, when I was at my usual desk, I felt my work load wasn't large enough.
Not that much. When I was in another team for a couple of weeks, I felt I had more tasks to own. But in my usual team, I didn't feel that much responsibility. Sometimes I would be given tasks with limited purpose or not asked to follow up the work or spreadsheets I spent time completing, they often got past to someone on my team.
I have developed networking skills which will help me whilst I am at university and also later on in adult working life. I had a knowledge share session whereby I explained my specialised knowledge from my degree and a professional explained how this relates to the banking sector. This was very helpful as it shows how my degree knowledge can be applied to professions
The Company
The part of the office I was working in was very un stimulating and quiet. But was good for hard workers due to this. However, the main building where I was working is very nice, bright and had good facilities. There were also other interns working in the same building which made the lunchtime atmosphere fun.
Travel, accommodation and pay seemed to be well organised for me. However, I know that other interns had some problems hence the score of 7.
My manager took a lot of time to help me improve interview skills and I reached out to other colleagues to ask for help with writing my CV. Also got the opportunity to complete qualifications and other courses relevant to banking. This was good as my knowledge of the banking industry has improved.

The Culture
Yes it was very good. From day one we all got on so well. Living together in a block of student accommodation made socialising easy and there was lots of opportunity to go out and have fun. Because Lloyds look for particular traits and characteristics, it meant a lot of us were really similar so got on brilliantly.
It was dependant on when and where you went. During August the cost of living was higher due to the festival raising prices. But this was only in the city centre. We were lucky enough to live just outside the city centre which meant prices were slightly better in pubs and stuff. This was good.
Very fun. There were clubs for everyone and events on most weekends which was good. Also if people weren't feeling an intense night, there were plenty of nice bars and pubs around. Also during the festival there was so much going on which meant our evenings were full of variety.
Yes there were a number of social opportunities. When I was in one of the team, we went to play crazy golf and got dinner which was fun. My usual team took me out for my leaving lunch. Also the charity challenge group task we had meant we did a variety of activities outside of usual work to help raise money for Mental Health UK.
