The Role
I enjoyed my internship here as it was an extremely useful experience. I learnt a lot of things in my area of Risk which will be useful for me in my future career. Having first hand experience in a company such as this is a wonderful opportunity and will be a strong foundation for my career.
Excellent! The people here really do take time to make sure you want to achieve your goals for the internship and gain knowledge about the industry. Everyone I spoke to at Santander is extremely supportive whether that be for my work or for advice for my future career, something that is necessary for an intern.
Its always great to get experience in a industry that is highly competitive. Completing an internship with a bank of this stature is an excellent opportunity to gain the hard skills and soft skills needed. For an intern, its key to have good training and individuals who are able to help you develop your skills and that is something that I received here.
The Company
The area that I worked in wasn't organised very well in terms of networking. Most of the times we the interns ourselves organised some networking events. Also, most of the interns didn't understand the structure of the internship and different managers had their own ways of handling the situation. This was in terms of the first week and last week, in the sense that we didn't know what was organised for us.
The only training we received was the online training that was accessible for all the employees at the bank (if we wanted to learn something specific). This was really generic but a strong foundation for someone who is a starter. There were no seminars for training, there were more practical training.

The Culture
All the interns had a good social scene. It was quite flexible - you don't have to be at your desk all the time. Interns regularly had informal events but most of the time it was organised by the interns themselves. There were no networking events apart from the introductory one.
I was based in London so it is quite expensive.
These events were not organised by the bank, but by the interns themselves. But its all about being proactive and making the most of what you get.
