    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I did a 12 week internship at Siemens in the Finance department and I can't believe how fast the last 12 weeks have gone past, it was one amazing time I spent here and I only wish I could do a placement here for a longer period of time in future.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Before I joined I had a bit of fear about wasting my time here as what I researched online internships are just to get coffees from the coffee machine for others but when I joined I was shocked to see that it is not the case at all and instead everyone is very helpful towards you and you make a lot of good friends along the way.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had my manager and my mentor for my support all the time and they helped me with whatever I needed to do my work/projects. I had regular weekly meetings with them and I was always provided a valuable feedback from them. I also had a chance t meet the top management and it was really inspiring to be able to talk to them and getting tips to make the best out of my time here.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload was appropriate from my manager but I took some independent projects on my own and I just managed to handle all of it. However, at times it did get quite a lot but again I chose to do that on my own as I thought I could do better and which I did according to my feedback.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was surprised by how much responsibility I was given in the first few weeks as I had to complete a task which required a bit of specialist knowledge which I was able to gain through job shadowing other colleagues and I cruised through my task and my manager was happy with the work I did and I enjoyed doing it as well.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt a lot from this internship and I've already started to think of my career in a different light and my studies are going to be largely impacted from what I learnt at this placement specially from my mentor as it helped me think differently to what I used to.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was really friendly and open atmosphere and I felt at ease during the whole time. The dress down policy specially made it feel very comfortable to approach anyone in any other department as well as your own, that helped me gain a taste of other departments in the business which I found really useful.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • On my first day, my manger gave me an induction and I met with my team I was going to work with. All the HR related work was completed by my manager prior to arrival. I had my laptop and ID card arrived during the first week completely set up and functional to get me started with my work.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were a lot of online training programs I had to do before starting which were interactive and easy to learn and go through. We also had a business program over 2 days in which each department came after another and gave us an overview of their work and made it really interactive as we worked through a deal through its entirety.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am already planning to apply for the Graduate Program next year when I graduate. There are there options as well like apprentice, one year placement, work experience etc, but for me the Graduate program is the best fit and I plan to apply as soon as I graduate from university.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We used to have frequent lunches out together in my team, where we used to drove to high street in one of the cafes and had our lunch there. It was the perfect opportunity to network and get to know the colleagues better in a different atmosphere. I also had a chance to hang out and go for lunch with the other interns as well and wee occasionally went for drinks after work.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a lot of volunteering opportunities plus chances to get involved in different activities outside work. Or the best thing was that you could organize something yourself and you would have all the support you require from the relevant departments and quite a few people did some events which were really good.
