    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the vacation scheme a lot and got to experience many different clients throughout my time at KPMG. I thought it was very useful in helping me to see what future career I may like and was a beneficial way to spend summer. I would definitely do it again if I could go back.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Some staff were more approachable than others but I did feel like the work I completed was valued and appreciated and that it would actually be used rather than discarded. My rating could be improved as some colleagues made no effort to talk to or get to know vacation students

    3/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The PErformance manager was very supportive and proactive and always checking to make sure we had work. As well as this on the teams I worked on, the staff and in charges were always there to assist and guided me very well. There was a strong support network on the jobs.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learnt will assist me in the future when I’m in a working environment and after I leave university. However, I don’t feel the skills will be that much use in my degree except potentially using teamworking skills if I am required to work within a group or with others.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The project I was working on did not happen so instead I was being found work week by week to do. This was no fault of the bristol office staff however I didn’t feel like my time was very structured and I would be concerned by the end of the week about what I’d be doing next

    2/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The majority of the staff were friendly and there were a lot of social activities organised so that we could get to know people and have a bit of fun after work. As mentioned there were a few people who didn’t seem to make an effort with the vacation students which lowers my rating here

    3/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company did not invest that much time into training us, however there was a lot of emphasis on personal development as we had to fill in passports and create goals. As well as this we obtained feedback so that we could develop any areas the in charge highlighted as weaker.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Although it was short, this has given me a great insight and as the weeks progressed I could see myself understanding more about what it would be like to work there and whether it was something for me. It was the most useful thing I could’ve done during summer for my career

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • As we were not there for very long, I didn’t gain too much of an insight into the company culture although I understood a little bit more about what the company is like and what it would be like to work there. I’m unsure how they could help me learn more however

    2/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • This was very useful in showing me both whether audit and KPMG were suitable for me. It has helped me gain a lot of new information and see first hand what the job is like helping me to decide whether I’d want to do it. It has helped open my eyes to the world of audit

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Received a good pay for the vacation scheme and all expenses were reimbursed for the recruitment and the travel to clients. The expenses procedure was easy to understand and do and the payment back to my account was easy and fairly fast. Overall the new expense policy and procedure is very good

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was not a lot of opportunity during my time that was organised to meet other people rather than those who were on my team (FS REGIONS). This meant I didn’t get to know that many people from outside of it although there was opportunity to meet the other vacation students

    2/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There were a lot of social activities during my time at KPMG which were enjoyable and was nice to get to know others. However I may recommend that some activities would be sober as it appeared the majority revolve around drinking which is not as fun to me as something else eg bowling

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I found out about the opportunities to volunteer and get days off for charity work etc however I didn’t find out much about any other activities such as whether there were any sports teams to get involved in or what else there is outside of work for employees. More information could be given on this.

    1/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this as it was a great way to find out both about the career and the company whilst also getting to earn money during the summer holiday. This is much more valuable that say working in a shop over summer. I would recommend this to anyone looking into accounting or audit
