The Role
The thing I enjoyed the most was autonomy and being involved with the running of the branch. Seeing how it works first hand and being actively involved in the processes of the business. The managers have confidence to give you responsibility and actively encourage you to learn more about the role and business in general.
My colleagues showed confidence in my ability, actively helped me to improve and to learn day in day out. Any question I had was answered throuroughly and and the training development scheme allows you to see where you can improve and what you need to do to succeed.
Management and supervisors were always there to help, support and advise with any queries I had. They knew the answers, helped me to find things out by myself and directed me. If I needed them they were there and if I needed support from elsewhere in the business this was quick and easy to find.
Some days were more busy than others, it was extremely varied. On busy days it may have been too busy however the job is enjoyable and interesting. On days with less customers there is always other things to be doing that help the business in many other ways
Responsibility depends upon how much responsibility you want. If you’re confident and want to take more responsibility you’re allowed to do this and pushed to do as much as you can. No question will be unanswered if you want to progress with the company and they’re more than willing to develop you.
This internship really gave me the opportunity to look into how the business runs and allowed me to see first hand how a business is run rather than just the theory behind it. Every month management sit down and evaluate the monthly branch statement and look at how the branch can improve profitability.
The Company
Everyone was young and has a similar mentality, everyone wanted to work hard and to do the job correctly which motivates everyone else. Because of the hours you spend a lot of time with them and become good friends. Branch lunches provided by the manager always made a good atmosphere.
The processes was organised very well, after applying online i had a telephone interview, then face to face, then branch Day and an assessment centre. The process was clearly described throughout and I as kept updated and informed throughout, it was also done quickly and efficiently. The team were great
The company training scheme is available to you from the first day. You have a training file where you go through the each stage and complete each part and management help you with this and advise you where you can improve or how you can complete each stage, very good.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I have been offered part time work when I head into my final year of university with the opportunity to also be a brand ambassador. I have also been told the graduate scheme is open to me after university. Other people on the internship have been offered placement years too.
The Culture
Everyone is the same age and everyone has been in the same position as yourself. Choosing to Do the internship in my home town meant there was a smaller scene for students but there is a large group of interns and students who work for the business. Overall there is a good social scene
My internship was in my hometown so the area is not the ideal place for socialising, however my branch were very social and we would often go out for lunch or a meal when we did a monthly statement review. Cost of living is cheap but I am from the area so I know where to go.
Night life is very average but this is understandable because I was in a small hometown where there isn’t nightclubs, however, I had many friends in the town so for me the opportunity to socialise was as it has always been. However there are plenty of bars and restaurants around.
There are not too many out of work activities, we work long hours and on your days off you want to relax and enjoy them how you want too. However for meetings and reviews you are taken out for meals with is nice to get out the office in a more relaxed setting.
