The Role
Absolutely loved it!! Learnt so many different areas of the business including customer service, management, sales, finance, and accounting therefore I have gained a huge amount of valuable experience which I feel has definitely increased my employability. The hours were fairly long and the branch was very busy but I didn't mind as the days flew by and the team at my branch were amazing
Everyone was so welcoming and helpful I felt I could ask as many questions as I needed to from anyone in my branch including my Branch Manager, Assistant Manager and other colleagues. At my time at the branch we went out together outside of work a lot which was nice! I honestly feel part of the furniture and am sad that I won't be seeing my work family everyday!! However, I will keep in contact with everyone at my branch.
My Branch Manager and Assistant Managers were extremely encouraging for me to ask questions about anything and everything and I felt I could approach them at any occasion. However, as we were such a busy branch, sometimes it was hard to find time to do a multiple sit downs with management.
As the largest branch in the area of U8 and with the closing down of a nearby branch, our fleet grew to 250 and deals went through the roof! Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays are extremely busy! But busy is good as days go fast and I actually really enjoy them!
As I didn't drive for my branch I was in the office serving customers and answering the phones all day. Even though sometimes this was tiring, it was perfect for me as I love getting to know people and really creating relationships with customers. I was also given responsibility of delivering Sales Emails and talking about them in morning meetings which I liked the responsibility for this.
I have definitely learnt to trust my initiative more, being in situations where I have to make decisions and arrangements by myself which have been successful. Teamwork is essential for a successful team, helping each other out, working as 'one team' and getting along with each other has been crucial to success of a large business
The Company
Really fun and happy environment, everyone kept going even when we were all tired wanting to go home. We help each other out whenever needed and are all really close now. It is a really friendly environment with our customers with many being regular renters we know them by first name and most staff members.
It was really good for the HR department, kept in contact with them throughout whole application and selection process and throughout the internship. More time should have been set aside for 1-2-1 meetings to keep up to date with the folder, my progress and my review but I understand it was because it was a busy branch and 10 weeks flew by.
They allowed me to take charge of different roles in the branch and that reassured me I had the capabilities to complete these jobs. I was assigned jobs but had the freedom to organize my own time and take lunch when was best for me. I felt really valued at my time at the branch.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Really good opportunities such as part-time work, year in industry, graduate programme opportunities and further opportunities. I am going to go back to university and hopefully undertake the Campus Brand Ambassador role as it is a good social role which is good for me but also convenient being at university.
The Culture
Yes! I started at the same time as someone on a year in industry so we could relate to certain situations and scenarios. A big group from my branch we have met outside of work for drinks, food, night out and it really does feel like we are a big family.
I live in the area so know the best places to go after work for a drink. On average a pint would cost roughly £3.50 and a gin would cost £5, there is lots to do in and around Huddersfield with a good university environment so has a student vibe
Good, I am from the area so know the night life well, there is a great club called Tokyo which has 3 different floors with different genres of music to suit different tastes of people, however we go out in different areas together for a different scene and where other colleagues live.
I attended the Area Night Out in Leeds which was great to meet people from different branches in the area. I attended a corporate lead meeting at a business premises in the local area which was really interesting. I am also getting involved with representing Enterprise at my university in Leeds.
