    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thought it was a fantastic insight. I learnt so much and gained plenty of new skills. Even though it felt daunting at first, all of my colleagues were super friendly and made me feel at ease. No question was ever a silly question and I was always encouraged to ask so I could take more from the experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely valued. From regular contact with both my buddy and performance manager, I always felt that I had someone to turn to if needed. I was invited to multiple social events so I was made to feel like a real member of KPMG and not just an intern.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I was given plenty of guidance throughout my internship. I had weekly chats with my performance manager who would answer any questions I had and asked me for things I’d like to do during my internship, he then went out of his way to ensure that I was able to complete these things.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained a whole set of new skills. Having no exposure to the world of audit before, I had very little previous knowledge however I now know a lot more about audit. My new skills include knowledge of excel, knowledge of accountancy and knowledge of industry.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I felt that on the whole the insight was structured well- interns were made to feel a part of the company and had plenty of opportunities to make the most out of their experience. However, I feel that there could be more set work agreed before the vacation student arrives so that interns are able to remain busy even through quieter periods.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was great at both client sites and in the office. Everyone was super friendly and no matter how busy someone was, they were always happy to help. I did not expect for the atmosphere to be as friendly and welcoming but I was pleasantly surprised.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • KPMG were fantastic with regards to training and development. I was able to complete many online training courses to expland my knowledge and gain new skills. I was also given feedback sessions so I could see how well I’ve been doing and how I could improve which was beneficial as it meant that I improved week on week.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I was able to experience many types of tasks that a full time auditor would be doing at the firm so I gained a good understanding of what to expect. I was aware that I could only complete certain tasks due to my lack of qualifications but in no way did I feel like this hindered my experience.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I learnt a lot about the culture of the firm and the culture is one of the main reasons why I am looking forward to working here full-time. From my experience I have learnt that the firm is a people’s place where everyone is friendly and welcoming.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I went into the internship with an open mind not knowing that this was definitely the career I wanted to pursue. After my experience, I now know that I am very much looking forward to pursuing a career in audit with KPMG.

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid for my time at my internship and reimbursed expenses for lunch whilst at client sites and some travel costs to client sites. I also had a lunch allowance whilst at the office.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • On my first day I was able to attend a Values Day where I met all of the interns and different members of staff. I also attended a meeting with a Director to learn more about life at KPMG. Furthermore, I went on a social event to the York Races which was brilliant and organised by the department and an Escape Room followed by food at a restaurant.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The York Races social event was fantastic, I met loads of new people and we even all went out into town afterwards. The Escape Room social was also great and very well organised. The Escape Room worked really well as a social as it helped us work together in teams and meet more people we hadn’t yet met.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I learnt that there are many different networking groups and committees that colleagues can be a part of including sporting activities and charity work.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Without a doubt. This was undoubtedly one of the best experiences I have ever had and has helped me to have a great career path lined up.
