The Role
The placement was enjoyable however I believe that the job description advertised with the placement is false and needs adjusting. This role should be advised as a customer service placement as appose to a Management Internship. The description discusses that we will learn every aspect of the company including the marketing, finances and how a manager organizes the branch. I did not have any allocated time to go through these aspects of the company as I was working long hours driving and being a customer service assistant. This was not what was advertised. I also believe the job doesn't advertise that we are taxi drivers/car cleaners. I wish I had known that when I applied.
I feel that my colleagues were friendly and contributed to my enjoyment at work. I feel that some of the colleagues could have involved me a bit more throughout my time there however they all helped me throughout my time.
Depends what you count as support. They supported you if you asked for help however I don't think they have any time to even ask me or sit down with me to go through my struggles.
Extremely busy to the extend that some days I went without lunch and when I got home I collapsed onto the bed and passed out.
I feel I could have been given much more responsibility. I have the capability to contribute to running the day and feel that could have been something I was given as it is a management internship.
I am not sure how my "skills" will contribute. I believe everyone needs customer service skills of which I had before starting this job. I have developed how I handle complaints with customers which will help in future work. However I wish there was more time allocated to actual management tasks as this is what I wish to do in the future.
The Company
I believe that the employees make the company. Without my colleagues being so friendly I think I would have left. They make the branch fun and we have a joke.
I believe it could have been better organized. Throughout the application process we were given 3 completely different end dates to the internship. Meaning instead of me completing a 12 week internship, I have now done a 10 week internship.
I believe more investment could have been given, towards the management side of things as that is what I did the internship for. I want to be a manager in the future and wanted to see what it is like to be one.
Company Parties/Events
I would consider future employment, however I believe the hours do need looking at as we are meant to do 48 hours a week but end up doing lots of overtime. It's exhausting and means you have no other time outside of work which isn't healthy. Assistant managers are leaving the branch but not switching off and the hours need adjusting. I think the assistant and manager salaries should be higher especially with the consideration of the hours they have to put in.
The Culture
We went on area night out, a branch meal out and I have separately gone out with some of the summer internships I started with.
I live there so no cost
We went to the pub regularly and easy access to Manchester for nights out
Only a few opportunities, could have been more
