The Role
I really enjoyed the internship. I have a lot of opportunities to learn from a variety of teams and people. including directors and managing directors. The program also organised many workshops for us to attend, which helps us learn more about different business areas across the bank. Overall, it was a great internship.
I felt really valued by the colleagues, ranging from my fellow interns to the line managers, other colleagues and even directors and managing directors. They are really nice, listen to what I have to say, value my opinions and challenge them appropriately, making me think critically about every decision I made.
The support and guidance by my line manager and mentor was incredible. They were really helpful to get me used to a lot of routines in the bank in the first few weeks. After that, when things get more technical, they went the extra miles to put me in contact with someone else in the bank who can help.
Generally, it hits a great balance between work and life. The schedule was put in such a way that I am busy for just 7 hours a day. After 5pm, I don't need to think about work anymore. I can spend those time with my friends and colleagues to grow my network.
I was given enough responsibility, a level that I felt actually contributed to the company, but also felt that it wasn't too serious that I have some rooms for errors. That makes me feel confident to try new things and learn from mistakes if those things fail. That was incredible.
I think the internship helps a lot in terms of improving my skills. It forced me out of my comfort zone to learn about front end designs and development, thus makes me a better full stack developer. That helps because in order to code a product well, being able to understand the business purpose of the product is very important.
The Company
The atmosphere was great. Everyone was cheerful and enjoys their job. There is free coffee and free fruit on Monday, so everyone comes down to the restaurant and talks to each other. There is also half-priced frappucino on Friday. Everyone is so helpful towards new joiners. Great experience in general.
In my opinion, the overall internship was organised to a decent extent. The start of the internship could have been better with better timing on getting the equipment set up before the interns join rather than waiting for the interns to make a lot of request in order to get things done.
In terms of personal training and development, the company invests a lot in us, paying good amount of salary and organising a lot of workshops to allow us to learn from different areas across the bank, not just confine to our technical zone. The program made us more versatile and adaptive to changes.

The future employment prospects within the organisation ís very appealing. They allow you the flexibility to travel and work with different teams, as different roles. Some people managed to get to work in New York, many get transferred to London once in a while. Generally, if you are willing to learn, you will find this more appealing.
The Culture
Yes, there was a good scene among fellow interns. We enjoyed the internship program together through various bonding activities from work-oriented like work-shadowing to self-organised like 5-a-side football and pub quiz and Escape Room. Generally, there is minimal competition between fellow interns as we helped one another to learn and grow.
The cost of living is cheap. Stuff are much cheaper than in other cities like Cambridge and London. Renting is also cheap as well. I am able to rent a decent room for 85 GBP per week, which is cheap. Airbnb is also not costly as well. Cheap place in general.
In Northampton, the nightlife was quite decent, lie towards a more boring one. But that's alright. There's pub quiz on Wednesday, and pubs and bars open until 3 am during weekdays, so generally not too bad. But if you prefer a more vibrant nightlife like London, you would be disappointed.
There are not really many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. Night life was quite boring with about 3 or 4 bars / clubs that are interesting, and decent pubs. If you expect a vibrant night life like London, you would be very disappointed. Go to London on weekends.
