The Role
I really enjoyed my time at KPMG! Everyone I worked with ,from senior managers to graduate trainees, were incredibly helpful and really took the time out to explain each task. Each member of the team were very friendly and have managed to keep in touch with some people I worked with via LinkedIn!
I felt that I was treated as if I were a graduate already on the scheme. I was given the responsibility to complete tasks for the entities that the team were working on. As I picked up a great deal of knowledge, I was even asked to sense check a graduate's piece of work.
I was given great support and guidance with every team I worked with. Any time I struggled to understand how to complete a task, I would ask my supervisor or mentor and they would be quick to help. This was common with each engagement I was on. I felt as though I learnt so much as supervisors readily answered all my questions.
I always had a task assigned and it was up to me to inform my team of my availability to get more work. I would say that I was quite busy but it was all manageable as the team were very supportive. Where there were upcoming tight deadlines, I stayed longer to help finish work.
I was given enough responsibility that matched my skill level. Having studied accounting and finance at university, I was able to pick things up more quickly and so could understand what was going on. As my supervisors saw that I was able to complete my work quickly, I would be given further responsibility.
I was able to put my accounting degree knowledge to test when performing tests on different accounts. For example, when analysing accounts I would have to see why certain values were debited or credited and understand why there were these splits. My excel skills have improved greatly also. I also learnt how to network at KPMG and was able to utilise LinkedIn.
The Company
For the first two weeks I was at the client's site. My team were very friendly and so there was a great atmosphere when completing my work. We all went for lunches together so interns felt as though they were already part of the team definitely making it more enjoyable. The last two weeks were at CSQ which was great as I was able to attend a Leadership breakfast with current graduates and partners from different fields.
The internship was very well organised as we were able to find out our timetable easily through our portal. The first few days were initial training which was set up via a conference with all the interns across the country. We were able to learn how to use the software on our laptops.
I would say that in terms of personal training and development was more up to you to ask your colleagues to explain how to do things or suggest events to go to. As I was proactive I was able to speak with many graduates from Audit and other departments so I learnt about the future of KPMG.

Working from home
I have already received an offer for the graduate programme starting next year. The internship is a great way to get your foot in the door and help you decide if working in that specific department is for you. I would say request feedback with people you have worked with as this adds weight to your application.
The Culture
I was not with other interns during my placement as we had different clients.
I commuted from home.
Again, I commuted from home so did not go out.
There were however you would have to be proactive in finding this out.
