The Role
The internship was a really great placement as it allowed me to get a great insight into what working at KPMG would be like, and more specifically, what a generic day in audit consisted of. It was made particularly enjoyable by my colleagues being very welcoming and helping me whenever i needed it.
I felt very welcomed by my colleagues and they were always happy to explain the tasks set for me as I was unsure because i had never done any practice in audit before. This made the internship experience a lot more enjoyable than if i did not feel welcomed by them.
I was given support and guidance by my supervisors to a large extent. My in charge was particularly helpful and helped me with any problems i had over tasks set and showed me around the office, pointing out key places and this was very useful as the office was very large so easy to get lost.
This varied from day to day. the start of the internship was much more busy than the end because we were carrying out the stats which had a deadline whilst i was on the internship, however, once this was met the work load did fall in the last week bu there were still things to do.
This also varied day to day - there were days when the tasks i was given were more complicated and were more useful to the overall audit, but some days the responsibility was less. however, the general overview was that the responsibility i was given increased as the internship progressed
this is to a large extent. excel is a good example of this because it is used quite a lot in my degree for statistical analysis, and although i thought i was okay at it before, i have significantly improved my ability to use it and this will help me in my degree.
The Company
the atmosphere in the canary wharf offices was very good in the way that everyone was approachable and friendly. there were people everywhere so wherever i sat there was someone there who could help you or give you guidance. at client site there was only 5 of us so the atmosphere was more work related and focussed.
i thought the internship was well organised. spending most of my time at client site was well thought of because this gave me the greatest insight into the day to day lifestyle of an auditor. i think the communication at the end could have been better as we were told we would find out if we were offered a ob inside 2 weeks but it was in fact 4.
this is to a fairly high extent. there were loads of online training courses for me to complete that focussed on audit training, general guidance of confidentiality and the importance to the company and also training on microsoft packages. There was also training opportunities from learning from my mentors and colleagues.

After the internship i did get an offer from KPMG to be placed on their graduate scheme for audit in september 2019. i will accept the offer because i had a great experience over the 4 weeks and also because the career prospects through KPMG are very high so make me feel it is the right organisation for me.
The Culture
obviously there was great night life in london considering it is the capital of england and a very large city. Although it was really good, it was certainly a lot more expensive than the university nights out but overall, it was definitely a great place to work for night life.
