The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. The opportunity to learn about the construction process in the subsea industry was an incredible experience. Working in a great and seeing numerous projects into fruition was a great experience and feel very fortunate for the oppertunity
I was given real work to do from day one and felt like a valued member of the team. I was given my own projects to do which had a real impact on the company. This involved working along side senior members of the team to ensure project delivery
My line manager and mentor were very supportive. If I ever had a question then they and the rest of the team were more than happy to help. They gave me the correct guidance where I could also learn things by my self
I was very busy on a daily basis. Given tasks that would span over weeks to complete there was never a dull moment. There was also the opportunity to complete BP in house training which proved to be very insightful. A lot of it was taking your own initiative
A great deal, through the process I was given projects that would eventually have a great deal of impact on the business. An example would be as part of the BP oversight team up north as part of a jumper build procedure. This involved working alongside Subsea 7 representatives and the like
Firstly I am now even more motivated to secure a first class degree as I now know what the potential returns of gaining that may be. I have gained and improved on numerous skills that I can carry on to my final year of uni and then onto my future career,
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was great. Everyone gets along which makes working a pleasure. Even though it is a high pressure job there is a still a relaxed atmosphere. Everyone is very helpful following the core values of the company especially working together as one team.
The work placement itself was very organised. Compared to other companies I had worked for before this was far more organised. This organisation makes BP a much better looking and enticing company to work for. I felt like the company actually wanted me to succeed rather than just leave me to do my work. They took and interst in the interns
I had hoped to do the offshore training however this seemed unlikely as an intern, The company itself made available all online training for us as well as the knowledge we gained from the team. Giving me the opportunity to see the build procedure and accommodate me whilst there was fantatstic
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
I am very much looking forward to finding out if I have gained a graduate role with BP. It is the number one company I would like to work for so hoping for good news. The job combines everything I have studied and I really enjoyed the work I was a part during my time here. Would recommend to any other student
The Culture
We organised some socials between ourselves and also given the opportunity for some BP organised activities. Unfortunately I was up north for the escape room which looked really good! However off the back of the reviews I did the escape room with my family so all in all it was a good social experience. I have made many new friends from this experience
Luckily my sister lives near by therefore I was very lucky as I had a house to stay. Aberdeen is very expensive but coming from Edinburgh the prices for socialising very similar. I like Aberdeen though so would be more than happy to move here for a graduate role.
Night life in Aberdeen is great, its a student city there plenty of things to do. For example I made my girlfriend go to the maritime museum. This allowed me to explain to her about some of things I have learnt throughout my internship. However there were also plenty of bars to go for a drink with other interns
The intern team organised a number of events which were great, there were also social clubs as part of BP. I noticed that there was a golf club and I belive the team I was in sometimes played squash and badminton. This is something I would get involved in if were to get the graduate role
