About You
I really enjoyed this scheme at DLA Piper! My team were extremely friendly and welcoming, including me in as much as possible! Furtermore, there was a great deal of support available to vacation scheme participants. I was able to make the most of the tasks given to me because I felt comfortable asking for help and discussing tasks with my assigned scheme buddy. Overall, a very enjoyable vacation scheme at DLA Piper!
I was made to feel very well-valued during my time at the firm. On the 1st day, we had a presentation followed by a Q&A session, which was led by the CEO of the firm. This, as well as other presentations with senior people at the firm, demonstrated the value placed on the vacation scheme students.
I always felt very well supported and I found that the recruitment team were really fanastic, always asking us to come to them if we needed help. I was never made to feel like I was bothering anyone if I asked a question and my team were a great source of support and guidance.
The skills which I developed and the knowledge that I gained on the duration of this vacation scheme will certainly assist me in my studies and beyond. I developed a number of transferrable skills, such as the ability to present data and findings, as well as networking and communication skills. Furthermore, I developed specific legal research skills, which will certainly be beneficial for my final year at university!
The Company
I found the vacaton scheme to be very well structured. We were provided with all the vital and necessary information several weeks in advance, which provided me with plenty of time to prepare adaquatly for the scheme. There was a good combination of networking and social events, as well as skill workshops.
I very much enjoyed the general atmopshere of this scheme, which I found to be friendly and fun! The first week allowed for numerous networking opportunities with DLA Piper staff and fellow interns, which instantly put everyone at ease! The recruitment team also played a large part in creating the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere on the scheme!
The firm certainly invested a great deal of time and resource into this vacation scheme. We were exposed to senior partners at the firm and were able to have a first hand insight into the workings of the firm. The various workshop and networking sessions were aimed at our personal developement and I was able to get a lot out of this scheme.
I found this vacation scheme provided me with a very helpful insight into what it would be like to work at the firm. This was down to the fact I was given 'real' work, which contributed to the team. We also had a lot of exposure to the current trainees at the firm, so we could speak to them first hand about their own experiences.
DLA Piper is extremely proud of its company culture and tries hard to distinguish itself from other city law firms. DLA Piper are a firm that have prided themselves on being forward thinking and progressive in what is a fairly conservative sector, and this really shone through. There is a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusiveness within the firm and this vacation scheme allowed me to appreciate the unique culture first hand.
The content of the vacation scheme was very valuable and has really solidified my intentions to pursue a career in corporate and commerical law. Having the ability to speak with a diverse range of employees at DLA Piper and carry out meaninful and 'real' tasks was especially helpful in this decision.
Everything Else
DLA Piper was extremely generous in terms of salary and reimbursing various expenses.
Yes, there were plenty of opportunities for networking and meeting employees at DLA Piper. As well as the formal networking events arranged by the recruitment team, we were actively encouraged to network on our own accord. I therefore arrange a number of coffee chats and lunch sessions with various members of staff, who were more than happy to answer all of my questions!
I very much enjoyed the networking and social events at DLA Piper!
Yes, there are lots of opportunities for DLA staff, including sporting and pro bono activities.
Yes, I very much enjoyed this vacation scheme and it really opened my eyes to beginning my career at DLA Piper, and therefore I would recommend this vacation scheme to a friend!
