The Role
My internship at Moore Stephens was a very enjoyable experience. The work I was tasked with completing was both interesting and intellectually challenging, encouraging me to learn more about the particular areas I was working on. My colleagues were more than happy to answer any and all relevant questions I had regarding the work I was doing and wider questions about working at Moore Stephens.
The Moore Stephens 'buddy' system allowed me to get in touch with my colleagues before I commenced my internship, I believe this system played a large part in allowing me to feel settled early on in my internship. This allowed my colleagues and I to work better together as we knew each others strengths and weaknesses, allowing each member of a team to contribute positively.
The management structure at Moore Stephens afforded me a range of people to reach out to if I experienced problems, and made it clear who these people were early on. My managers and I had regular meetings to assess how my work was going and answer any queries I had which I found valuable at providing support and guidance.
The work I was doing had a balance between having enough to do and enough time to complete it to an acceptable standard. This balance was well understood by management which allowed me to complete work in a timely manner, but also one that allowed me to appreciate the work I was doing.
I was afforded a high degree of responsibility during my internship, which at first I found daunting but by the end of it I was enjoying having tasks that I carried out regularly and without the guidance of others. Having my own responsibility early on made it feel like I was valued within the firm
Both the hard and soft skills I used during my internship will, I believe, benefit me in both my studies and beyond. These include the ability to work both autonomously and within a team and the use of excel for data collection and analysis. I appreciate the training opportunities provided to me during my internship.
