The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship, because on the same project very week was different, hence I was never bored. I got to use different software and industry standard tools model the electrical services such as security, lighting, small power and telecommunication points which where required for the Building i was tasked to work on.
I felt quite valued my colleagues, because although i was new i was included in all the meetings for the building. Also, i was allowed to in the team's Electrical technical meeting as well as the more informal meeting where everyone can just catch up on what they have been doing that week.
I was given support to a very large extent by my supervisor, I was working with another employee who was all eager and understanding to teach me how to use all the new software. Also, willing to explain to explain to me why certain things are done in certain ways rather than just sending me off with work to do.
The work load and level of difficult from day to day was just the right amount throughout the course of my placement. Because there is enough time to get along with the work as well as learning what services the buildings electrical team typical offers as well as consulting for development of buildings.
I was modelling the lighting for most of the rooms in the building s and doing the light calculations to achieve the require Lux and uniformity as stated by the rooms datasheet. Then transferring the solution to BIM, a tool for multidisciplinary modelling for buildings. Where I was tasked with adding the other electrical services needed for the buildings.
I think the skills I have developed would definitely help in my degree; the experiences from learning to use multiple software in a relative short time means i would be more adaptable to using new tools through the rest of my degree. Also learning about British Standards for wiring and more would be invaluable.
