About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my insight in to CBRE, I was welcomed in to my team and everyone was happy to help me at any opportunity. The Scheme itself was tailored extremely well to giving an insight into hw CBRE functioned as a company and to exposing interns to as much experience as possible.
I felt extremely valued, I was always included within the office, for example on team trips that were not company organised I was invited along. Additionally I was asked my opinion many times and key team members made a a direct effort to explain everything to me allowing me to contribute helpful work.
I received ample guidance from both my mentor and the internship team. Everything was explained impeccably and whenever I wanted to speak to other departments or other members of teams, the people around me were more than happy to help me locate the best people to talk to. I felt that they gave the perfect amount of guidance.
Because my degree skills were actually quite unrelated ( I study History and Philosophy) I had assumed I would struggle more, however this was not necessarily the case. My department allowed me to understand the tasks they were doing by giving enough explanation to allow me to develop my own understanding in combination with the previous experience I have had.
The Company
The insight was very well structured. It allowed for interns to make the most of their team experience whilst making valuable contacts within the company. Additionally it allowed for interns to get an idea of what the graduate experience at CBRE is like, by undergoing some of the training which Grads are required to complete.
The general atmosphere was the best of any company I had experienced. CBRE had a professional yet slightly more relaxed atmosphere which allowed for interns to mix with for example directors as well as graduates and senior surveyors etc. This was one of the best things about CBRE because it showed their unique approach to a corporate atmosphere.
They offered lots of training to interns, such as presentation skills and people skills training. I believe they truly wanted us to gain the best experience possible from the internship. At every possible stage the intern/grad team where there to ensure that you were always having the best experience possible.
It gave me a very good understanding.By talking to lots of different people at different levels within different departments int he company. I was able to gain a good understanding of the different ways in which different companies function and their different approaches to work. This was great as it also gave me a good insight in to which departments I might like to work in.
The insight really helped me to understand the company culture. For example I really liked the hot desk system which ensured that people at various levels mixed with their superiors. This was a key aspect of the culture, as it showed that CBRE let vertical in their approach to leadership.
The three weeks I was there allowed me to confirm that this was the future career path I wanted. Having wanted to apply for the CBRE Graduate scheme previously, the internship only confirmed more that it was defiantly what I wanted to do. Furthermore the internship really tries to help you decide this and this was a great aspect.
Everything Else
I received a payment f £1100 for 4 weeks at CBRE. I though in-comparison to other internships this was very generous as it covered both my travel expenses and the social expenses for the 4 weeks. However i'm not sure how effective it was for those not traveling from London as it did not cover both travel and accommodation for them.
There were ample opportunities for networking and meeting other employees within my time at CBRE. I was always introduced to different teams and their members through my team and through other interns who were sat with them. Furthermore there were lots of events which allowed for interns to meet with various different departments in both the HH office and in SMC.
The networking and social opportunities were amazing. I was lucky enough to be there when it was sports day and this was a great opportunity to meet lots of different people form around the company. Additionally I was always encouraged by my team to meet with people for coffee and to network as much as possible.
I found out there were various sports teams such s football and netball. There was also lots of social activity outside of work like company and wider networking events and events organised by individual teams. Additionally other teams were always happy to let individuals join their team outings/ excursions etc.
I would defiantly recommend this internship to a friend especially one interested in their career path. The internship was a unique opportunity to gain insight in to what it would be like to work for the biggest property company in the world. It is as totally unique and wonderful experience and I would encourage anyone to apply.
