The Role
It was the fastest 10 weeks of my life so that’s a good sign. My team were extremely welcoming and genuinely seemed excited to have me there. The organisation is so huge that you constantly learn something and meet great people with interesting stories everyday. I feel grateful to have had this opportunity. The first couple of weeks definitely is an adjustment period but after that it was challenging and fun.
This was the biggest plus of the internship; the manager assigned to me and my manager’s manager were truly invested in my development. I never once felt like a side project or annoyance as some students experience at other internships. My colleagues were fun and more than happy to help and after I had learned some on the job skills they valued my opinions too.
I got constant feedback and had weekly check ins with both my managers. I was given specific advice for me and some I will take and apply for the rest of my career. My manager and others on my scheme have such great general life experience that issues or can nicer so you feel they’ve had them and overcame it themselves. They didn’t throw me in the deep end but gradually gave me more challenging work as weeks go by but also gave me ample opportunity to work hard myself an£ show that I’m willing to go the extra mile.
The first few weeks were not too busy as I had to just learn about the role and watch videos so multitasking wasn’t required. Once I got started on my projects things got very busy very fast but once they reached completion things went back to normal. I’ve been told this is normal in project based roles. Over the 10 week period I only stayed past 6/6:30 8-12 days and even on half of those days I could have done the work the following day. I never stayed past 8:30pm.
I started off with not a lot of responsibility but by the time I was finished a built a tool that is going to be used by my team globally so I felt like I had responsibility. In a bank it takes time to truly add value, you have to learn a lot of fundamentals first.
I’ve learned so many soft skills. Communicating to people within a global team and being able to persuade people to help with your own project are key skills I developed. I learned vba from scratch and now will learn other coding languages off the back of that, primarily c++ which I hear is good to learn.
The Company
Vibrant and lively, lots of light and air conditioning. Was a nice busy enviornment
They had lots of events for us to network with senior people and your encouraged a lot to arrange coffees with people too. The events let’s you learn more about the firm and opportunities for you to grow career wise within the firm. Then we had a couple intern events as well which were a lot of fun too.
The managers really gave detailed feedback on how to improve and develop weaknesses. We were assigned business liaison managers too who also gave advice if you had any issues on internship too etc.

Amazing. My program has 3 rotations in different parts of the firm so I’ll be exposed to so many different roles, in CADP the variation of work is what attracted me and this is great too if your not sure exactly what you want to do but know the sector you want to be in or where you feel you will be challenged best.
