    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed interning at J.P. Morgan over the summer. The internship was well-structured, and was professionally led and conducted by the F&BM Campus Recruitment Team. There were ample opportunities to hear from senior management, network with employees across the firm, in addition to fellow interns. The internship was well balanced.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Fellow colleagues in my team made me feel very valued. They were all approachable and during my time, I was able to spend time with everyone in the team to understand what their role entailed and to learn how their respective roles fitted in with the overarching function of the team.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager(s) were very supportive throughout my internship and were quite prompt in helping me, regardless of whether it was a team related task or an administrative query. In terms of guidance, I was always encouraged to seek help from members of my team in case I did not understand something.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was kept fairly busy throughout the day. In addition to my BAU tasks, I was encouraged to reach out to other employees in the firm outside my team and fellow interns as well. I spent a lot of time networking during my internship and also made use of the JPMC Online Learning Centre to deepen my knowledge of the bank's products, processes and soft skills as well.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was tasked with a project which was being led by the regional MD of my team. I was entrusted to analyse the quality of data and present my findings in a succinct 10-minute presentation to the firmwide team followed by Q&A. The importance of the project meant that I was required to deliver a high quality presentation given that it was imperative to the team's processes so from that perspective, I felt I was given a lot of responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel the skills I have acquired during this internship have equipped me to succeed in my degree studies and beyond. Teamwork, communication and problem solving skills are among the many I acquired, which will be invaluable to me as I progress through my career. Furthermore, I gained a good comprehensive understanding of the industry, the bank itself and its products which allowed me to develop my knowledge of finance.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was a very welcoming one and was very well balanced. We did not only discuss work during the day, but other things as well. One of the things which really stood out for me was how welcoming the team was and thus that allowed me to fit in seamlessly with their culture.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised by the Campus Recruitment team and all communications with regards to upcoming events were sent to us in advance, which helped me to organise my calendar effectively. The team also ensured that we had ample opportunities to network with fellow interns and other colleagues across the firm.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, there was a good social scene amongst fellow interns. I would say that this would be one of the highlights on the internship. This was made possible by the socials that were organised by the Campus Recruitment team which gave us plenty of opportunities to meet and interact with interns from across the firm and thus get to learn from them.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in London is quite high, and thus made socialising very expensive. Due to London being expensive, it limited possibilities of socialising. Travelling within the city was expensive, even by the tube and transport alternatives in the Canary Wharf are were scarce. Furthermore, restaurants and clubbing outings were fairly expensive too.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, the firm provided and in fact, encouraged to get involved in plenty of activities outside work. For instance, there were volunteering opportunities in addition to sports clubs including rugby, cricket, squash, badminton among many others. On top of that, there were career-related clubs as well in which conducted skills-based sessions, hosted speakers from the senior management and a lot more.
