The Role
I found the job a very interesting one to do, I was on the F&BM scheme, and while it took me a while to adapt to the 9-5+ grind, and get into a work mindset, it was very rewarding in the end, my team were very supportive and helpful. And I felt like the work was adding value to my team.
My team, and all of those around me at the firm were very helpful throughout my internship. While they were often very busy, especially those who were more senior, they always attempted to make time for me in the end. There was a lot of help with a 'buddy' who had completed the scheme in a previous year.
I was given a lot of support at the start, and throughout the internship. However, the only downside was that they were occasionally very busy, and therefore getting feedback could occasionally take a while too long to be ideal. However overall the management were very accommodating, and always got back to me in the end.
How busy I was on a daily basis varied quite significantly, but most days I would say there was a pretty good balance. A lot of the work I was given was very self driven, as I was given a task to complete, and while I was able to get feedback, most of what I created was on my own initiative.
There is certainly a limit to the extent of responsibility that any intern can be given. So, while I was not given a huge amount of responsibility, my team were always willing to explain how what I was creating was beneficial to them, so even if it was not the most responsible role, it was still made to feel useful.
This was one area where JP Morgan really excelled in my opinion. They have internal trainings that are recommended both before, and once the role was begun. I found them very useful, and colleagues at work were very willing to aid me in developing my skills. Even the mandatory compliance training was relatively interesting.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very good. I was not on the trading floor, so it was not overly loud or aggressive, but there was a lot of banter within teams, and there were always people bringing in snacks to keep the mood up within teams, and everyone was very friendly.
The internship was run by HR, and they always ensured that there were a lot of general events for all of the interns to enjoy. They set up lots of talks with people from various lines of business to ensure that all of the interns got a proper overview of everything within F&BM.
The firm were always very helpful with all of the interns, as they ensured that we were always busy enough, and we had regular feedback sessions, in order to ensure that we were on target for the offer, and in order to ensure that we had enough work to do, and understood why it was worthwhile.

JP Morgan is a very exciting place to work, as within the firm they place significant emphasis on mobility within the firm, and indeed many people were able to move to other areas of the bank while on the internship, either for another internship in a different area, or to gain a graduate job in that area.
The Culture
Three drinks events were arranged by HR, and they were all good fun, and the rest of the time there was more than enough to do with other interns, even if the area around was incredibly expensive to eat and drink in, which was one of the few downsides of the scheme.
It was fun to do, but very expensive, which was a downside.
It's in London, so it's easy to go out in the surrounding areas.
There were a lot of opportunities, but we were not pushed too hard to take them, and it was very self driven.
