    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My internship was a really enjoyable experience. I received support from the program managers, including a lot of training which helped me in being more confident when doing the daily tasks for my team. The program is well-structured with several big social events and other opportunities to network with fellow students and senior employees. It is hard work as you have to show you are committed and capable of managing your workload which is a bit overwhelming sometimes. However it is worth it in the end and the good thing is that it only lasts 10 weeks and you see analysts job is actually less intense.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues on your team make you feel really special. You get real responsibilities from day 1, deliver work that they use and basically treat you as a full-time analyst. They also encourage you to express your opinion which they value a lot as you have a fresh outlook at all the processes. I felt very welcome, my team organised a few team events specifically for me.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The program is really well-structured with a lot of training. You get a 1.5 week worth of training at the beginning which gives you a broad overview of useful skills, not only your division-specific. Then every week you get additional training on topics you need. Your teammates always find time for you to explain things you do not understand. Everyone is really open to feedback and people are also really friendly so you feel more comfortable asking them questions.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • You always have things to do which helps you to learn a lot and made my internship really interesting. The time goes back really quick and you feel like you actually contribute a lot. It could be overwhelming at times as most of the interns come straight from universities and are not used to a workload like that - however, it is honestly completely fine to raise your hand if you feel like you have too much to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You are treated like a full time analyst from day 1 - you get all the responsibilities like other people in your team (obviously they train you on everything and do not expect the same quality as from full time analysts). However, you really feel like a part of the bank and you know the things you do are useful for them.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Personally, due to the course I study, the things I learn during my internship will probably not be very useful. However, I feel like my soft skills have improved significantly. Entering my final year at the university, I will definitely find it easier to organize my dissertation workload, I am a lot more confident in presenting and understanding things quickly, I know how to fully use the resources I have. I feel like thanks to the internship, the final year at the university will be much much easier.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was super friendly, people are really approachable. They always find time for you if you have any questions or just want to have a chat. They are really open to meeting new people and I felt very welcomed straight away. The atmosphere was not tensed at all which made working even easier, you knew you could take a break whenever you felt like you were getting stressed.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well-structured. We had a clear plan with many training sessions, social events, talks and networking opportunities. Also, the program managers were always there for us, open to feedback, any issues or suggestions. You always knew that you would be doing and did not have to find out yourself which was really useful as a fresh starter.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The training sessions were definitely of very good quality and their number was sufficient as well. You get training by both people from the business as well as external experts (Excel etc). You definitely feel that JP wants you to develop yourself and make the maximum of your time during the internship.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Obviously, JP Morgan is a very respected investment banks and your employment prospects are great. The fact that many people convert their internships into graduate scheme offers is also a great opportunity. I feel like even if you choose not to join JP on the graduate program, this experience will be very respected when applying for other jobs.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Interns in my class were very friendly and after 10 weeks I feel like I'll be friends with some of them for a really good time. The atmosphere was very good, no unnecessary conflicts/unpleasant situations. I got on very well with every single person in my class and hope to stay in touch with them.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is obviously a really expensive city. However, the salary definitely made it possible to live on a very comfortable level. Also, even in Canary Wharf you could find place to eat out for cheap and you do not have to spend a lot - you could manage to save some money up.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is not much of a nightlife in Canary Wharf - however, there are a few nice bars where people always hang out after work. However, there some nice clubs nearby, like Shoreditch or Greenwich. Also there are some nice restaurants and a huge shopping centre where you could spend some of your free time.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are numerous volunteering opportunities you could get involved in even as an intern. You could join different Business Resource Groups where you could develop your interests and which are a good opportunity to meet people. Also, you could join the gym. There were several social events and networking opportunities.
