The Role
The overall experience was a great work opportunity for me to develop my soft as well as my technical skills. The overall structure of the industrial placement and the training opportunities were really beneficial especially coming from a university environment. This was my first real job and I completely enjoyed my year with JP Morgan.
Starting from day 1 I was introduced to the team members and I felt already included into the team from the first days. I loved how all my colleagues were young and open minded, most of them were graduates which gave me even an easier way to approach them and ask questions.
My manager was always supportive and understood I am coming with no experience from a university program. As we had regular catch-up meeting he was always guiding me on the right path and gave me advice on things to improve in order to make the best out of my internship
As I have been working within a team from the beginning, on the same project, I was given responsibilities on finishing tasks in time and taking my work really serious as other colleagues may depend on my tasks. I was, of course, treated like a full-time employee, picking up work and contributing to the team workflow but in the same time I benefitted from all the training needed and there was no issue if, for example, a task was impossible for me to finish in time. At the end of the day, it was all about communicating updates and letting people know about your progress.
I strongly feel that the work-life balance was successfully achieved while being in my placement year. I had real responsibilities from week 1 but in the same time I, of course, did not end up working over weekends or any crazy thing like this. It was more about the self-time management and communication with the team on things that you can or you are not sure how you can achieve.
Having a full 1 year of experience working in one of the biggest investment banks game me a great opportunity to discover my skills, strengths but also weaknesses. Always planning to improve myself, this internship gave me great insides on things that I need to further learn and develop in my future career. I strongly believe that all of the learned skills will successfully assist me in my last year of university.
The Company
I was working in the Glasgow office and I can easily tell the atmosphere is an amazing one, very lively and relaxed. I was personally expected more of a cold, strict environment but everyone was really friendly, ready to help or even to chat while showing people around. I love the culture in JP Morgan and I believe this is one of the greatest criteria especially when coming from the university.

The Culture
All the interns kept in touch for the entire period of the internship and event after it. It was a great way to make friends and always communicate with each other's experiences, allowing everyone to get a fair taste of the work available in different divisions from the one they are working on.
As I was working in the Glasgow office, I can tell I always recommended Glasgow and Scotland to my friends and family since I first started my internship. The overall cost of living is fairly normal, cheaper than the big cities in the UK. Glasgow is a very lively city with a lot of things to do, always succeeding in entertaining you.
Nightlife was great as Glasgow knows how to party. Always new places to try and to make friends.
