The Role
The responsibility given to placement students and the contribution a student can make within ASDA is something that the teams really engage in, which makes the year a really enjoyable experience.
Team structures and team ethic within ASDA is very strong, there is a lot of emphasis on team unity and bonding and within teams everyone is working together to reach the same results, so it is easy too feed off each other and enjoy success.
Managers and seniors constantly are available for you to go and speak with, they are looking to drive your time within the placement and are looking to give you the most opportunity to do different things and learn outside the day job.
From the beginning there is a 12 week training programme, once you are settled in it is up to you whether you can take on more project work and whether you deicide you want to go further in your day job. There are lots of opportunities to explore everything that ASDA does.
After I was settled into my day job, I took on jobs and projects that managers were happy to give me, these were great learning opportunities. The confidence that is given to a placement student is extremely high, the opportunities to venture out of your own team and learn and experience different departments within ASDA and go on training makes taking on new work a great challenge.
The industry insights and commercial awareness that is built up during the time at ASDA makes all the theories and literature at University relevant. It makes giving great examples and expereinces at University yourself and a year within ASDA Wal-Mart, one of the biggest supermarkets in the world, looks great on the CV!
The Company
A great magnetosphere, a fun and social side of team work where everyone is driving for results.
There was a good training programme and a 'buddy' system to help all new colleagues, after that organising any extra work for yourself with the support of managers is very easy.
A good 12 week training programme and the ability to book yourself on any extra software/department training throughout the year.

A good team ethic and great opportunities to move up within the business make future prospects extremely appealing.
The Culture
There was a good social scene with the placement students as we trained together and went on various outings as ASDA representatives so we bonded quite well.
Within Leeds there are great places both to live and socialise in, many areas to cater for different people.
Leeds is a great city, excellent night-life and very enjoyable with the colleagues from work.
Volunteering, charity fund-raising and sports events were ll easily accessible as an ASDA colleague.
